At The 'Movies
"The Hindenburg?' is a story of
the .final Atlantic crossing of.
Germany's giant luxury dirigible., a.'
subjeet which.had intrigued movie-
makers for years, but was seen as a.
Project that defied fihnizatien.
With . the 'publication of "The
Hindenburg" by Michael Mooney,
there was available a body of fresh '
material on which a suspenseful
motion picture - not a documentary
- could be based. • Mooney's
account of sabotage by a °crew
member was only one of a number
of sabotage theories, advanced
since the exploSion, but it lent itself,
with dramatic force and • impact to .
the screen. `, -D
Producer and director Robert '
Wise assembled an,impressive cast,
and technical staff to re-create the
drama of the Hindenburg's final
sky voyage in 1937: George C.
Scott stars as LuftWaffe, Colonel'
Franz Ritter, dispatched to travel
aboard the. Hindenburg and prey,
ent threatened sabotage, and Anne
Bancroft plays the role of the
Countess, an aristocrat who is
opposed to the Nazi regime. 'Other
passengers aboard the,Hindenberg
are played by William Atherton,
Roy Thinnes, Gig Young and,
Burgess Meredith. • •
"The Hindenburg" ,was filmed
in Munich, Germany (doubling for
pre-war Frankfurt), Milwaukee,
New York and• Washington. A
marine base in California doubled
for Lakehurst, New Jersey and the
deadly , explosion was filmed at'
Universal Studios.
"The Hindenburg opens Febru-
ary 11, at the Lyceum in Wingham.

The Christmas Seal- Campaign,
which is 'the only sourde of funds
for the Bruce, Dufferin, Grey. Lung,
Association,. has , expressed thanks
to the news media for its assistance '
during ,the past. campaign. a.
Caught 'in the middle of a
disastrous postal strike, the cam-
paign which is handled entirely
through the mail, has. had a
remarkable recovery in the area.
While the goal of $50,000 from the
three counties still -.lags about ,
$7,000, money continues to come
in, and the Association is most
hopeful , of getting closer to its
estimate of its needs,
While the long postal strike was
tying up most mail, through the.
co-operation of friends of the
Association, mail was delivered in
too many ways, to mention, and
stores and banks offered to take
returns: and hold them until a way
could be fOund to get them to the
bank in OWen Sound.
"We are most grateful. to our
friends, whose time and money
have helped us achieve at least
some money this year" says Mrs.'
Evan Keith, director, of the
Lucknow area.
Without the help of the public 'at
large, and the co-operation of the
weekly newspapers, . this could
have been a disastrous year for the
Christmas Seal Campaign., The
campaign officially; closesFebruary,
29, 1976.
