On Tuesday, January 6th' the
Jnnior. girls? basketball team from
Wiarton ventured to our school to
challenge our girls to a game of
basketball ' Our girls proved
successful again by defeating
Wiarton with a score of 72-15.
While the, girls were busy playing
in Ripley the Junior and Senior
boys' teams were , playing in
,Wiarton. Although the Junior boys
played a• good game, Wiarton
turned out to he a bit better. • The
score of their game was 46-33. The
Senior \boys played a good game
alSo but Wiarton came out on, top
42-22,
The.teamls were busy again on
Thursday January 8th when,. a
busload, of players and cheerlead-
erS, along with-their coaches and
two scorekeepers, left the school. at
,12.30 to travel to Lions Head.
'Once again the Junior girls won
their game with' a score of 51-13.
The Junior boyi played a very
' close game against Lions Head but

Christmas Party
For Happy Hearts
The. Happy HeartsClub of Ripley
held a Christmas party at the legion
Hall, December 11th at 12 noon.
Members and guests were met at
the door by Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Courtney and Mrs. Norman Mc-
Donald. A sumptuous dinner was
served to 94 people by the Legion
Auxiliary Ladies. ,
It was decided to pack Christmas
boxes. for sick and shut-ins and a
trip to Biuscelea 'Haven .is . to be
planned as an annual .birthday
party. Mrs. Kirkpatrick is in
charge. Carpet bowling commenc-
ed the 1st MondaY,in January.

Christmas carols as portrayed in.
The Christmas Story the proph-
ecy, the shepherds, the Nativity, A. bazaar and, sale of 'home
the Rejoicing and the Light of the. baking was held with Reg Moore

This was followed by a short skit

Mrs. Norval Stewart her niece,
Mrs. Amelia McLeod a young man
and Mrs. Donald Gilles Sr. an old
man. Mrs. Reta Irwin and ''Mrs.
Clara Courtney "sang 2 duets - Star
of the Fast and I'm Dreaming of a
White Christmas. Mrs. Kirk-
patrick read a poem appropriate to
the season ending with Merry
Christmas to all. A story "The
First Christmas Rose" was read by
Reg Moore ending in a prayer. The'
program closed by • singing the
,theme song.

Born' in Huron County near 'St.
Helens, Ontario, on October Ilth;
'1899, she attended the local school
of the district and also St. Helens
Church.
The former Winnitied Woodi,
she was a daughter of the *late
James WoOds and Sarah. Jane
Reid, Moving to Galt in 1923 she
taught school in Manchester and
Central Public Schools for several'
years.: On August 25th, she
was married to C. Arthur VVhethatn-
of Gah, ' Ontario, 'She was. a
member of Knox's Presbyterian
Church and was a "Member Of
several organizations in the church.
She is survived by her husband,'
C. Arthur Whetham of Cambridge
(Galt); Ontario; one son, George
Reid of Barrie, Ontario; and two
daughterso•Mary Isabel (Mrs. J: E.
MacDonald), of Cambridge (Galt)
and Kathleen Helen (Mrs. L. .1:
Reypert), of Bramalea, Ontario.
Seven grandchildren also survive
Two brothers, Wilson Wciods of
Guelph and Dr. AlViii Woods 'of
Dundas and two sisters, Mrs,
Claire Dougherty of Guelph and
Mrs. Vera. Tyson of Richmond Hill
also survive. She was predeceased
, two sisters.
Several :cousins and friends
reside, in the Lucknow 'area.
Private family, services were held
on Friday, December the 12th from
Little's Funeral 'Horne, '39 Grand
Aiertue. North. CaMbridge (G,alt),
with the Reverend Robert A.
Jackson officiating. Interment was
held in Mount. View Cemetery.
DOnations to the Canadian
Cancer Society were requested by..
the family in lieu of.flowers.
