The ,central partof Ripley - to the
east and north of ,the main
intersection - had a three and' a half
hour hydro blackout last Thursday
evening starting at five minutes to
five. The hydro men from.
Kincardine lobated the break and
then a Walkerton truck came over
through the thick snow. Thanks to
these men some were able to see
the' last of 'the Bostcin Bruins. -
Russian hockey gaine and also
more important get heat back in
' their homes..
, Poor visibility and snowy roads
forced the cancellation of an.
Auxiliary meeting scheduled for
the Ripley Huron Legion Hall last
Thursday evening.

Jim Nesbitt of tbe second
concession west in Huron Townz'
ship passed away on Monday,
January 5, in Kincardine Hospital.
Born in Huron Township, July 13, •
1901, Jim was in his 75th year.
Surviving is his wife Eileen - the
former Eileen Shiells. The funeral
service was held on Thursday
afternoon at the McLennan Mc-
Creath Funeral Home'in Ripley and -
was' conducted by Rev. Robert
Putnam of Pine River. Interment
was at Ripley Cemetery. Sympathy
is extended to the bereaved.

Steve Bell of Ripley reports that
the Ripley Intermediate hockey
club has arranged a benefit hockey
game and dance at the Ripley
Huron Complex this Saturday,
evening. Proceeds are to aid Terry
O'Brien, a member of the Ripley
Intermediate team,, who suffered a
broken shoulder in a - game in
Ripley with the Atwood Interinecl-
iates.
On Saturday evening; the game
which starts at seven thirty, has the
O.P.P. All Stars in a 'game with
Ripley. The dance with music by
the Sound System starts at ten.
In the hockey game, fora period,'
John D. MacKay, former Ripley
net minder, will return .as well as
regular goalies Larry' Irwin and
Kevin Harrison. On rearguard
duty are John Fludder, Allan
Mackay, Brian Pollock and Carl
Stanley, while up front are Barry
MacDonald, Boyd Carruthers; Bill
Kirkpatrick, Elliott Courtney, Eric
MacLeod, Phil Paquette; Murray :
Ferguson, Bryan Boyle and Dave
MacDonald. •

A, resolution from the Township
of Stephen was 'endorsed by West
Wawanosh. Township Connell: on
motion of ' Councillors ,Foran and
Hickey. This resolution was passed
to request the Royal 'Commission
on Electric Power Planning to
conduct a study on the effects
(mainly on agriculture) of a power
plant, in Huron County.
Motion by Councillors Hickey
and Cranston "That the Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority ex-
pand , its jurisdiction Into those
areas which presently drain into
the Lucknow River Watershed
including portions of. .Culross,.
Kinloss, East Wawanosh;, West .
Wawanosh, Ashfield and Colborne
Township and the Village of
Lucknow." Carried,
. The clerk, was directed to Write
Harold Errington to.comrnend him
on his excellent record of attend
ance at Maitland 'Valley Conserva-
tion Authority meetings, for which
he is the West Wawanosh repres-.
entative. Mr. Errington has .100%
attendance 'in 1975 at a total of 24
functions.
After lengthy discussion and
careful deliberation, By-Law #1,
1976, was' given third reading and
finally passed. This by-law sets out
the remuneration to be paid
officials of .the Township for the '
ensuing.year: clerk, $2860; treasur-
er, $2200; reeve, $550;, councillors,
$495 a plus $10.00 for special
meetings attended; - grader operat-
or, 4.25 per hour plus $22.00 per
month OHIP coverage; wingmen,
3:75 per hour; casual labour, $3.20
per .hour and blast. Disposal Site
supetintendent, $3.10 per hour.
Motion, by. councillors Hickey and
Stothers to pass by-law #1, 1976 '
was 'carried by round,.
Motion by Councillors Foran and .
Hickey "That the road superinten-
dent be paid $5.00 per •hour and
receive $22.00. per month. OHIP
coverage for the year 1976, and
that 'he be paid $100.00 per month
truck allowance for the first' six
months of the year 1976.
Motion' by Councillors Cranston
and Hickey: "That. Allan Cranston
be hired on,a permanent basis as Of
January 1, 1976, as grader operator
and general township employee."
