two highly-esteemed ,residents ' of
Althorn, when .1,44 and Mrs. Her-
bert -Niogridge ,celebrated their
60th wedding anniversary.
Many guests registered 'their
names, the register being in charge
of the aide's sister, Mrs. William
Marsh of Goderich, who also, wel-
comed the guests when the couple
held open house last; Saturday.
The 'house .Was tastefully decor-
ated in a pink and white colour
scheme with, numerous gift bas-
kets of flowers and, pink "60's" to
help brighten the stormy December
day. The madeira covered cloth
was adorned with pink candles,
silver tea 'services and, flowers,
centred by a beautiful three-tiered
wedding cake.
In the afternoon Miss. Sadie.
Carter and Miss Margaret R. Jabk-
son poured tea and in the evening,
Mrs, William, Straughan and Mrs.
Charles Straughan, The guests
were served by granddaughters,
Misses Helen and Betty Marsh and
Mrs. Robert Thompson. This hon-
oured coUph.• received many tele-
grams, messages of eongkatula-
tions and cards from their many
friends and numerous lovely gifts
to mark the memorable occasion.
Vamily Gathering
On _Sunday, December 1st, a tur-
key dinner was serkted to over 30
close 'relatives and friends. The
bride, who was , formerly Alice
Manning, was the daughter of the
late Mr. and Mrs, John Manning,.
and the groom is the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mog-
ridge. They, were married at the
hoMe of the bride's parents, 'by
Rev, Mr. Andrews,'of Londesboro
and were attended' by Miss, Maud
Moorehead and Mr. Edward Mog-
ridge.
They farmed on the 10th of Hul-
leL't for three years,' then in 1900
they inched to the Base line and

family; until 10 years ago when
they retired to Wye In the Village,,
They are both valued members
of Knox 'United Chureh Mr. Mc,g-
ridge being a sealer . elder of the
Soarrl of Session now and Mrs.
Mogridge is a life member of the
W,M4,, and a worker in the W.4
In the community they have taken
a very active part, Mr. Megridge'
being reeve of Hullett for three
years and councillor ,d)r 11 years,
Mrs. Mogridge is a charter member
of the W.I., ;being its first piesi-
dent and also a member of the:
Horticultural Society, Her hobby'
is flowers and her hoe is •always
a beautiful array of colour both
summer and winter, She alSo hooks
beautiful mats. •
This couple has two daughters,
Mrs, Bert Marsh (Dora) of Peters-
burg and Mrs. Gormley Thernp.,
son (Edith) of Brampton, also
three granddaughters and one
grandson and two great grand-
children, who were all present on
Sunday. Mrs, Mogridge has one
sister, Mrs. William Marsh of
Goderich and one brother, Mr.
Thomas Manning, of London, and,
Mr, Mogridge is the last living
member of his family.
Guests were present from many
points as far as Pilot Mound, Man.
The best wishes of this commun-
ity go to this honoured Couple on
this memorable occasion. Both are
in their 80's.
WI WILL STAGE
COMMUNITY NUT
ST. HELENS— The 'December
meeting of St. Helens Women's In-
stitute was held on Thursday at the
home of the president, Mrs. And-
rew Gaunt. The roll call was ans-
wered by 18 members and 6• visitors,
There were two children and six
visitors present.
The financial report was given,
with cash on hand of $388.93. A
Christmas carol, "It Came upon a
Midnight Clear" ' was sung.' Mrs.
Charles McDonald gave the motto,
"God gave us memories that we
might have roses in December".
Mrs. Frank McQuillin gave a
reading, "At Christmas Time" it
was decided to have a community
night on December 27th with a de-
bate, the subject being "Are Farm-
ers' Losing Their Independence?"
Those taking part will be Murray
Gaunt, George Ribey, Don Camer-
on and Ross Errington. The lunch
committee for, the night is Mrs,
Rutherford, Mrs. Gammie, Mrs,
McNeil and Mrs. Barbotir.
It was decided to make a dona-
tion to the TB fund and the Child-
ren's Hospital. Mrs. Chester Tay-
lor played "Christmas Bells" as an
instrumental. "Oh Little Town of
Bethlehem" was sung. Mrs. Ross
Gammie read the Christmas story
of the "First Gifts".
Mrs. W. A. Miller had the topic
and read a story of the "Littlest
Angel". Mrs. A. Gaunt gave a re-
port of the rally at Londesboro.
"Silent Night" was sung and the
meeting closed with the national
anthem.
There was an exchange Of gifts
and a dainty lunch was served by
the hostesses, Mzs. Chester Taylor,
Mrs. Fred McQuillin and Mrs. Er-
nest Gaunt.
Relative Dies
In Vancouver
ST. HELENS—Word has been re-
ceived by relatives here of the
death in Vancouver on November
29th of Dr. Hugh McCrostie, fol-
lowing a severe stroke. Dr. Mc-
Crostie, a former resident of this
community, had •been hospitalized
for the past year following a pre-
vious stroke.
Mrs. Will McCrostie, Caryl and
Ronald, accompanied by his sister,
Dr. Margaret L. Graham, of Ed-
monton, visited Dr, and Mrs. MC-
