EDUCATION 11-11, ANSWER
"I have been concerned-with the
salvage 'of alcoholics for 1,0 years,
and I have, come to believe that
many alcoholics need never have
become addicted to anything
They had established the habit'
with absolutely no knowledge of
the dangers involved."
Dr. R. G. Bell, medical director
of the Bell Clinic in Willowdale for
alcohol and drug addicts, was
quoted, recently in a Toronto paper.
He declared that adult alcoholics
in Ontario,. have increased at a
rate of 91 per cent between 1946
and 1956, The statistical risk of
becoming an alcoholieSs greater to-
day, he Said, than the risk of
contracting diseases like polio and
cancer, Part of the rehabilitation
involves comprehensive instruction
on the effects of alcohol.
As one part of his alcohol edu-
cation program Dr. Bell is spen-
goring a public course on alcohol
and drug addiction, Twenty lee-
tares are being given, free of
charge, to physicians, 'nurses, social
workers, clergy, high school teach-
ers and others, The public will be
charged $25.00 for the entire
course. 21bA
