NATIVE OF HOWICK.
NOW IN SWEDEN
A copy of the United States Soul
Clinic which reached our office re-
cently from R. A. Laurie of Chia
cago, carries an interesting acs
count and photo of a former How-
ick resident, Miss Adeline Lowrie,
Scandanavian. representative ,,of
Soul, China,
"Miss. Lowrie was born in Howick,
a granddaughter of David Lowrie
Of the B line andof
ton, Belmore pioneer, her • mothe,i•
Mary having married James Low-
rie. It may also be mentioned that
the mother of two, prominent Bel-
more area men, the late Bishop
Wm, Hartley and-his brother, John,
Huron school inspector, became the
wife of Gus Barton, •
The life of Ada Lowrie has been
an eventful one, rich in Christian
experience, having .been for 30 years
a missionary in interior China
where she introduced the Gospel for
the first time. She loved her work
and the Chinese people and was un-
happy to be forced by the Red
Government to leave China. Miss
Lowrie 'has mastered the Chinese
language, one of the most difficult
tongues, and can speak, read, write
and sing with any educated Chin-
ese.
On her return to Canada and the
United States she visited her eleven
brothers and sisters and was en-
gaged in organizational work for
two years. She then accepted her
present position in Sweden, where
she has proved herself as an ef-
ficient organizer and fluent pro-
claimer of the Gospel.
The 'newspaper account stated,
that the Sandanavian 'people put a
primary valve on tempered bene-
fits and almost exclude the spirit-
ual from their lives. In difficult
times, such as during World War
II, they turn do God, but when
peace came and they • were liber-
ated multitudes left the church.
