joyed a bus trip to Niagara Falls

ton, Dundurn Castle, and Brock's
Monument and the Hydro Plant at
the Falls where a film was shown,
A picnic lunch was held in the
park at neon. Arid 'everyone viewed
the illumination of the Falls at

WHITECHURCH The high
winds that created havoc in the
Dungannon district last Thursday
night seemed to jump from there
to the farm buildings of Angus
McDonald and Leroy Laidlaw,
wherel.trees were torn down, barn
roofs' stripped of shingles and
siding from the • buildings was sent
flying through the air. The blast
then jumped to the farm of Rus-
sell Purdon, on the river road,
where a huge piece of roof was
blown away. The braces dropped
frorn their places to the barn
floor. Several places. on' the' east
side of the roof appear to have
been momentarily raised by the
wind and several, splits have been
found. Several orchard trees
were bloVen down at the same time,

J. S. Eliott, a native of East Wa-
wanosh, who has been principal

since 1918. Raymond Elliott, Blue-

ham, Fire -Chief Jan Carr, Dr.
Pennistan, provincial pathologist,
of Stratford. and Murray McFar-
lane: who was the first' person to
see the. fire, .helped piece together
the story of what took place.
The jury, after deliberating only
ten minutes,' returned a verdict of
death caused by a combination of
Mans and asphyxiation, and added
a rider that, had the• Victim not
suffered a heart attack, he might
have 'been able 'to make an eseape
from the building.

To Attend Jamboree
Troop Leader Paul Bennett, on
of Mr. and Mrs. Alan D, Bennett,
.was recently invested as a Queen's
Scput, and will leave On July 10th,
to attend the Boy Scout Jamboree-
at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
This ten-day meet will be attend-
ed by some 300 Canadian Scents,
who will, have the opportunity of
meeting and working with fellow
Scouts from 'rriany other countries.
This is a great• force in the devel-
opment of ,greater understanding
and friendship among boys from
different national and cultural
backgrounds.

was born in Mornington' Township,
Perth County, in 1873, The 'Most
of her life had been spent in Car.
rick Township,
At the age of six, a few months
after she started school, she was
stricken with polio, which left her
with a partially paralysed left, .side .
and kept het out .of school until
she was nine years of ' age. After
attending " the Woodstock • Colleg-
iate and Model School, she receiv;
ed her teacher's certificate at the'
age of 17 and taught in S.S.
Wellesley (Linwood) for thtee
years, Bereavement and Sickness
in the home kept her from teach-
ing for another ten years. She
then attended business college in
Toronto and secured a position
with the Manufacturers Life In-
surance Co., which she held untill,
her marriage to John Gowdy in
1914.
Always interested in church
work, she bed taught Sabbath
School classes at McIntosh, Bel-
more, Salem,. Woodstock ,and
ronto.
