Hullo Folks!
. The Engine of the Future
Within 10 ye'ars, the family car, may• lose its radiator and its
gear box, its hungry appetite for exen.sive gasoline and the' need
for frequent oil 'changes. , .
The gas teirbine engine, a simple and efficient mechanisM
that works like a windmill, is pretty certain to become the new
engine for automobiles — although the 'most optimistic estimates,
put, it -still a decade away, • •
• The , gee,. turbine ',engine does, away with the
les -,osiso. or -eight: cylindersv'of totlay!S:eleutomobile hf
which rapidly burning' gasoline slapee, the pistons
up'. and down.
In a single metal slee.je, about the same size
as today's cylinders roaring flame sends a rush
„c1 'hot, expanding gasses against a, metal pin-
wheel., The pinwheel revolves- like crazy, 50,000
times a minute, and .that's your motive power. , , •
Acceleration is smooth and fast, lubrication is
simpler beganee the• turbine has, one-fifth the
number of mowing parts and never exposed se • to containination, It can burn the cheapest
LORNE MCDONA1Dgasoline, or even kerosene if need be. ,
• • There are , a lot of production problems to
. iron out yet because , the turbine is ofill an ex-
pensive, hand-crafted and delicate instrument. But exciting news
is ahead in the automobile, business. ."
-It's always an exciting day, too, When a customer we've served'
for years brings in his car (that .we 'sold him, new) 'to trade on
this year's model, These cars are our .pride and joy, the ones
we've serviced and maintained since they -,were babies.- They are •
ears we can be dspecially proud of on the used car lot and can
keep in top shape for many years to', come because out mechanics
