they are still in the red the board
will probably have to consider

The radar installation is the first

The overnight camp experience
proved a revelation to recruits who
joined the batteries since last fall.
They found that under modern
training schemes and barracks
accommodations, the life of a
soldier is interesting, pleasant and
above all Comfortable. Cots with
mattresses were available for all
ranks and meals served from well
equipped kitchens rivalled restaur-
ant fare.

Teacher's Resignation-

The board accepted the resig-
nation of a Member of the school
teaching staff, Miss Mary Ann
Cleland, who is taking tip a teach-
ing position in Vancouver. It was
announced by ,the vice-chairman
that three new teachers have been
engaged for the commencement of
the school year in 'September.
A resolution from East Elgin
District High School Board that
the entry Into the teaching pro-
fession be simplified by the gov-
ernment by cutting one year from
the five years' teaching course and
incorporating the teachers' train-
ing course into university studies,
was endorsed by the' Wingham
board.
Tuesday, June 11, was fixed ae
"orientation day" at the Wingham
District High 'School, On this day
new students and teachers are to
be given the opportunity of look-
ing over the school and getting to
know one another,
As the vehicles assembled for the
homeward trek, Lieut. Col. Oliver
paid tribute to the men for their
conduct and efficiency during the
two-day exercises. "I have been
coming to Meaford since 1948 and
during these years no shoot has
been conducted in a more credit-
able manner. From a training
standpoint, we must consider the
exercise most successful."
"A variety of target were 'chosen
and all were attacked with pro-
ficiency," added Major Balrr.

demonstrations of gymnastics and

Florence Nightingale
Service Held Sunday
About seventy nurses from Clin-
ton, Goderich and Wingham, at-
tended the Florence Nightingale
service which was held in the
Wingham United Church, on Sun-
day.
The unites, all in full dress uni-
form, heard the Rev, D. I. MacRae,
minister of the United Church,
tell them what It means to 'be a
nurse,
After church the nurses return-
ed to the Wingham General Hos-
pital, Where they Were :conducted
through the building by, staff
members, Afterwards they were
served lunth in the 'modern cafe-
teria.
