Hullo Folks!
A Look At The Future
- The experts are guessing 'that in 10 years or perhaps a little,
longer thp automobile will undergo its greatest -change in 50 years. •
That change will be the introduction of the gas turbine engine,'
the first basic alteration in the automobile power plant since the
gasoline internal combustion engine triumphed over the steam
and ,electrid cars of the early 1900's.
The internal combustion engine, with its numerous cylinders,
pistons bouncing up and , down, is about 'to go out the window.
This new engine, when it comes, will eliminate the necessity for
the radiator, anti-freeze, the gear box, "tulle. ups", regular lubri-
cation and instead of six or eight spark plugs \will haVe only one
(and that is used, only' in starting).
The IniSic idea is ,simple, A roaring tube of
flame and expanding gases of about 4,000 degrees
is thrust against a pin wheel, Which makes the
pin wheel revolve like crazy.
And there is your motive power. The power
of the - revolving turbine caw'he transmitted'
directly to the rear without ,tie problems (solved
by the, flywheel today) of converting' the np-and-
down jerk of the pistons into Smooth revellutions
of the wheels. •
This smooth, simple and economical source:
of pOwer will, be introduced when the problems
'of mass-production 'have been licked. Alight now,
the CarefullY-balanced parts Of the gas turbine LORNE. MeDONALD engine to be hand-crafted. This is all right
in making airplanes, 'where the turbine has been

No. Matter how cars are moved, by pistons, by turbines or by
infuriated drivers pushing from behind, we expect to he around
Offering people the advice end service to keep driving safe, coin-
fortable and economical. You have to keep up-to-date in the car
business; but there. is value for you — in`the fact that we've re*
tained "old fashioned" personsal service, too. •
