AUBURN—The Women's Insti-
tute met last Tuesday evening in
the 'Sabbath School room of the
Dungannon United Church, for the
annual Sunshine Sister banquet.
The delicious turkey dinnety was
served by the members of the DUn.,
gannon Institute,
Mrs. George Millian, president,
was in charge, with Mrs. Robert.j.
Phillips, presiding at the piano,
and opened the meeting with the
Ode, A toast to the Queen was
proposed by Mrs. Alvin Plunkett
and responded to' by singing The
Queen. A toast to the. Institute was
given by Mrs, RObert Chatnney
and Mrs. Gordon Miller renlied.
Mrs, Wes Bradnock thanked the
Dungannon ladies •for the lovely
banquet and Mrs. Everett Erring-
ton, president of the Dungannon
Branch, replied.
The reports of the standing' com-
mittees were given before they are
sent on to the district conveners.
Each gave an excellent report on
their various topics. Mrs, Keith
Meehan, for agriculture and, Cana-

Mrs. Stanley Wheeler
Taught in Gorrie
Stanley Wheeler,
the forrner Jennie Rands, died at
her home, in Brussels .on Wednes-
day evening, April 24th in her 69th
year, after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Wheeler was well-knovvn in
this community, having been prin-
cipal of the' Gorrie Public School
for three yearS before her mar-
riage. She was also active in the
work of „the Worneri's Institute, and
served as secretary-treasurer-Of the
East Huron DiStriet' W.I.: for a
number of years.,
' Surviving are her hiasband; two
sons, Lloyd of Brussels and. Glenn
of" Londdn; •one sister, Mrs. Ella
Surry 'of Bru'sse'ls. and Six grand -children.
The funeral service was held on
Saturday afternoon in. Brussels and
interment was in Brussels ceme-
tery.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Douglas of Lis-
towel were visitors on Sunday with
Mr. and Mrs. Manfred Irwin.
Mr. and Mrs. James Easton spent
a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Glad
Edgar: They were returning to
their home in Pointe Au Baril after
a trip Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Fairish and two
children of Lucknow were Sunday
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bower Far-
rish.
Miss Marlene Feigel of Kitchener
was a visitor at' her home during
Easter week' and also spent a few
days in New York City. '
Mrs. Bella Greaves returned on
Sunday from, Toronto, following an
eye operation hi the General Hos-
pital,
Mr. Harvey Sperling, treasurer of
the Gorrie and District Red Cross,
reports that $480 has been turned
in from the Red Cross canvas,
There are still some canvassers to
be heard from and it Is hoped that
the quota of $700 may yet be met,

meeting, were read by the Secre-
tary, Mrs. Bert Craig and adopted
as read.
Mrs. Robert J. Phillips was elect-
ed district director as Mrs. Wes
Bradnock had resigned from that
position, It was decided to have
another millinery course in the
fall, Due to the rising cost of rent,
ete,, a motion was carried that 25c
be paid for the lunch at the regular
meetings, The May meeting will
have the installation of officers
and also a White Elephant sale
will be held.
The parade of Easter hats Which
had been made at a recent millin-
ery course showed the other mem-
bers the beautiful chapeaus the
ladies had made. Appropriate music
was played by Mrs. Sidney MeClin-
ehey for the grand March.
Mrs. Otto Popp, of Dungannon
was the guest speaker and chose
as her subject "The. Progress of the
Rural Homes." Mrs. Edgar Law-
son thanked Mrs. Popp for her ad-
dress.
The wedding of "Jack and Jill"
was sung by Mrs, Gordon Charn-
ney and Miss Donna Haggitt in
bridal costume of 50 years ago.
A monologue "The. Meeting Will
Come to Order" given by Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt was very amusing;
when she introduced several:merit-
hers names in her role of a presi-
dent of a- Women's Institute' meet-
ing.
Mrs. Ed. Davies presented Mrs.
Gordon McDougall with a gift on
behalf of the W.I, for her out-
standing achievement, in, the re-
cent 4-H homemaking project of
"Sleeping Garments". She obtain-
ed the highest marks for her sew-
ing on her pajamas in the county.
Prizes were given out to the
youngest members, Miss Donna
Haggitt; door prize, Mrs. Gordon
R. Taylor; lucky cup, Mrs. Donald
Haines. '
A piano duet was played by Mrs.
Robert J. Phillips and Miss Mar-
garet A. Jackson. The roll call was
answered by' each Sunshine Sister
revealing the name of the sister
she had remembered secretly dur-
ing the past year.
A skit "The Merry-Go-Round"
given by Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs.
Tom Lawlor, Mrs. Gordon Dobie
and Mrs, Wes Bradnock was very
humorous. It was the amusing
story of a farm family of four en-
gulfed into too many organizations
in a small town.
Mrs. 11/Lillian thanked all who
had taken part in the program and
all sang "Auld Lang Syne". The
committee in charge of the even-
ing was Mrs. George 11/Lillian, Mrs.
Harry Watson, Mrs, Gordon Miller
and Mrs. Wellington Good.

the course "Steeping Garments", at-
tended Achievement Day in the
Wingham District High School on
Wednesday.
Eight girls met on Saturday for
the first meeting of the "Garden
Club" which will have the same
leaders.
