SPEAKER URGES V.A.
TO ENCOURAGE:01M
.01 -ing. OF CHURCH
On Thursday, the Women's Auxi-
liary of St, Paul's Church gathered
in the school , room of the church
for the annual Ddnation Tea.
They were joined by many ladies
of the congregation and', also by
several WA. members from the.
Gerrie parish.
The president, lilt: R. A, Powell,
presided and following .the singing
of the W.A. hymn, "The Love of
Christ Constraineth", read the
prayers fort missionaries at. h'o'me
and ahroad and the W.A, i)raier
was, repeated in unlson.The Script-
ure, appropriate to the Lenten
season, was read by Mrs. Nash.
Mrs, H. L. Parker introduced Ore
Speaker, the Diocesan girls' secre-
tary, istra, Mirehouse of London,
who is a very active worker among
the girls of the Diocese. She felt
her office was important as it is
from the girls of today, the W.A:
members of tomorrow` arc recruit-
ed. It is a duty and privilege 'as
W.A. members to fetter these
groups and encourage them to be-
come members ° when older, St.
Andrew, the missionary disciple,
brought a child to Jesus with his
loaves and fishes. He gave all he
had and if' we folloWed his example
and gale freely of our time and
taleets, how the work of the
chutch in missionary fields Would
prosper!
She Said we ail realize the short-
age of leaders in ottt groups. One
reason is lack of training and she ,
'stressed the Work the 'Anglican
Women's Training College is doing
iri giving girls an impetus to give
their abilities to church Week.
The Bursary Fund started in 'Leo-
don has been a real help' mater-
ially to these Students and each
W.A. member has ,a gift to
work, arid prayers,„it was felt mote
effort should be Made to eintotir-
age girls' to eater the training
college and that .this paved the
WO for them to do thisaionery
work both in Canada arid Its the
foreign field,

Mrs. G. W. Tiffin was the
speaker at both services and told
how in many countries women did
not dare attend a, public earistian
service for fear of reprisals. In,
many regions the light of Christ's
word has never penetrated their
darknest so today Christian wo-
men re-dedicate themselves to the
anission of the church and the
strengthening of their personal

We can be so- thankful that
famine and need in our country,
are 'rare and as today we consider
the peril of the sword we think
of the Hungarian refugees. Christ
has told, us they 'are our neighbors
and as 'such need our care and • protection.
The offering helps train Chris-
tiana leaders, provides Christian lit-
eratute and assists Students from''

country.
In conclusion prayers were said
for the Christian church, the royal
family, for freedom throughout the
world and for a new' awareness
and dedication of ourselves to the
work of the church.
