For the Batter
1 2/3 cups once-sifted all-purpose

1 cup fine granulated sugar
2 well-beaten eggs. •

For the Frosting.
4 tablespoons butter or margar-
ine
Few grains salt
2 cups sifted icing sugar
2 tablespoons (about)' hot Cream
1/2.• teaspoon vanilla
Grease• about 18 average-sized
muffin, pans, or proportionately
more small pans.. Preheated oven
to 400, degrees .F (hot). Sift the all-
purpose, or pastry flour, • baking
powder; the % teaspoon salt and
nutmeg together tvvice: Cream th?
% cup butter or margarine; grad-
.ually blend in granulated sugar.
Mix in eggs, part 'at a time, beat-,
ing well after each addition; stir
in the :11,. teaspoon vanilla and al;
mond extract.
Add sifted dry ingredients to
creamed mixture'about' 'a auarter
at a dine,: alternatin with 3 ad-,
ditiens, of milk and Combining
lightly: after each ,:addition. Twe-
thirds fill prepared pans with bat-
ter, Sake in preheated oven about

ones. Let stand in pan 5 minutes,
then turn out on cake raelts and
cool.
TO Fee. and Decorate Cup 'eakes
Cream the 4 tablespoons hutter
or margarine and add the few
grainS salt, Gradually blend in
icing sugar along with , hot cream--
use just enough ,cream to make on
icing of spreading consistency;'
beat In the '1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
To decorate „Cup cakes in a variety
of cOlOrs, Spoon icing into 3 or 4
small bowls. Tint each portion of
icing '.a different shade with food
coloring--keep colors delicate and
cakes will be prettier. Spread cup
cake tops with icing and decorate
with sliver clragees, hitter-sweet
chocelate 'shaving chopped. nuts,
colored sugar, maraschino cherries,
candied peel, etc.
