the highlight in 'the branch's first
regular meeting, of 1957, A hinch,

the hospital work. :In February,
1956, the patients were moved Into
the new chronic 'wing and there
are now 59 ehronic arid 50 active
beds . At one time in Noveuther,
there Were 100 patients 'and • the
staff has grown to 127.. She em-
phasized that all -should be prond
of the hospital, as it is the first, in
a town this size, to have both an
active and a chronic wing. Plans
for 1957 include a , laboratory .
which will be the first to• be set up
in a smaller hospital.
This year, the' auxiliary com-
memorated their fiftieth anniver-
sary and in honour of this event
are placing an oil pa,iriting, in the
Waiting room of the new wing.

The reeve was requested to bring
the records and figures ;to a meet-
ing of the town's finance commit-
tee, at which time the matter 'of
arena financing will be discussed'.

which has been discussed by sev-
eral' of . the merchants, whereby
suitable buildings could be' erect-
ed at the rear of the McDonald

Most of the councillors were im-
preised by the suggested plan and
voiced their approval on . general
principle.
A by-law to authorize the bar-
rowing of necesary funds until the
taxes are collected was passed. •

• Tax Arrears Discussed
The question of tax. arrears was
digeusged for some time and coun,-
cil gave consideration to the hold-
ing of a tax sale to .collect the
arrears which are too far behind.
The matter is to be giVen further
consideration at the next' Meeting

Frederick William French, A.,
died at the 'home of Mrs. E. J.
Switzer, 8 'Minton Place, Toronto,
on Saturday, January 5th, in his
89th year.
