The prizewinners in the noirelty
contests were as follows: Oldest

Stonehouse, 89, of Beigrave; oldest
man attending, Mr, Hugh Camp-
bell, 94, of Walton; largest family,
Mrs, Violet Ma,chan and her family
of 14 children, Attending from the
farthest away was Mrs. George
McCall and lta'r, J: Wallace, hoth of
Victoria, 18.C,
Prizes were also awarded for
the best decorated bicycles -mast
comical couple, oldest vehicle, best
decorated -vehicle, best clown and
best old-time float.
Afternoon proceedings included
a tug-of-war and a, girl's softball
game with Brussels defeating
Stratford 3-2.
In the evening at Brussels Park
a program of music was given by
the Goderich Girls' Band and the
following artists pmsented some
top-line entertainment:
Miss Doris Johnston, marimba
soloist; Miss Lillian Sinclair, in-
strumentalist; Clark Johnston, solo-
ist; J. Everett M' es, magician and
Harvey McGee, soloist.
After a fireworks display a dance
was held in the town hall,

berry would be behind Mr. Ed-
wards' protest. Mr. Smith 'said he
felt that this was a similar move
to the one made two years ago by
C.N.R. to'eurtail train services in

tury, was the highlight of Monday's
festivities. The 100-entry parade

ham Lions Club are meeting nearly
every evening to complete plans for
this year's Frontier Days celeba-
tions. From all reports this year's
festivities will be bigger, and better
than ever,

DIES UNDER TRACTOR
,Glen S. Irwin, a 30-year-old
farmer from leinless Township,
died on Sunday as a result of a
tractor s% accident. The tractor he
was driving near. Lacienow rolled
into a ditch pinning him beneath
it. Pollee say the accident happen-
ed shortly before a passing motor-
ist found Mr. Irwin about 7 a.m.
An inquest will be held sometime
next week.,
Mr. Irwin was horn in Kinloss
Township where he 'had farmed
most of his life. ,
I will be on sale at 21 different
places. by August 15th. Although
these tickets will not ensure re-
served' seats, 'they will enable the
holders to obtain a seat in the
-uarnetnla.; Tickets Will be honored up
Together with the star of the
show, other featured acts will be
performed -by the Paul Brothers
and'Shirley, ..a vocal trio and Jack
Bateman; a comedy magician. Also
on the stage will be a top-flight
orchestra which will supply the
music for dancing after the musical
program has ended,
A .Frontier Boy and Girl will takes
the cart of the main parade theme
which in past 'years has featured a
Davy and Daisy Crcickett theme.
There will also be prizes for the
best decorated buggies, bicycles,
tricycles, wagons, etc.
The children's parade has been
moved back to 1.15 to enable 'the
parents time to prepare the chil-
dren for the event. The official
opening in the town nark will take
place at' 2 /a.m., after the parade.
Taking nart in the Saturday
parade, along with four other
bands, is the very famous Six Na-
tions' Indian Band, and later in
the afternoon an Indian tribal
:dance will be Perfernied .iiY Six
Nations Ihdirms.

Sheriff Brent requests that any-

and it is expected that it will be

The possibility that rallWay mail,
express and passenger service may
he:Stepped on the Palmerston to
Kincardine' line, which serves this
district, was brought up at. Tues-
day evening's session of the town
council by Mayer R. E. McKinney.
The Mayor said that mail clerks
whO are employed on this and oth-
er C.N.-lines have already been
notified that' the railway will dis-
continue mail service, and he felt
,that this action is only the first
step in the suspension' of the other
services mentioned.
Mr. McKinney 'said that within

:A. five-manjury returned a ver-
dict e of accidental death,. after de-
liberating for twenty minutes, at
an' inquest 'into the death of 25-
yeat-old Edward Marley of Phelp-
stone who was killed when he was
caught in the' door of a :mixing
machine in Morris Township.
Coroner Dr, W. A. Crawford con-
ducted the inquest. The Crown At-
torney was H. Glen Hayes.
Marley was killed on the morn-
iagsof July 10th, at e, gravel pit
onsthe-seemd concession of Morris,'
south 'of Wingham. He was trying
to close a trap door of an asphalt
mixing machine when ,the acci-
dent occurred.
Three other Men who were `work-
ing with' Mr. Marley were ques-
tioned by the Crowh Attorney dur-
ing the on -hour 'inquiry.
First , to take the witness stand
was George McMillan, who said he

the accident happened. In giving
his evidence, Mr. McMillan said,
"We were trying to • close a deer
on the mixing machine, which had
been sticking a bit. We'd tried a
crowbar and block and tackle 'un-
successfully, earlier. He asked me
to helm I looked away for a minute
and when I turned again he was

bands will take part in the giant
Frontier Days parade on Saturday,
September 1st, They will he the
Brussels Pipe Bind, the Brodhagen
Brhes Band, the. Wingliam Lions
Boys' and Girls' Band, the Six. Net-
ions' Indian Band and the Goders
ica Girls' Trumpet Band.' The lat-
ter organization won the Canadian
championship M.1955 and in Wing-
ham will present a new drill ,rouf-
inc, to be seen for the first time
here.
