Paterson, of Whitechurch, last

Bruce Mines,
, Jan. 27th, 195ti..
Dear Sir; "
T was very much pleased to re-
ceive your Very' nice letter of the.
5th,
I was born about 1% miles .from
the village of Belgrave, ,My par-
ents lived on a farm ' and in 1877
M
"cued to Bruce Mines. was ]!
then only four years old. We
settled on a bush farm' about 19'
miles from here, ' There were few
roads and it was some time before,
schools were built,' '
In 18 months My father died, T
hardly know ho* my mother man-
aged to provide for five' children,
of whom I was the youngest; It is
a long story of hardship but wet
always seemed to • have enough
to eat and some home made cloth-
ing to wear,
At 17'T worked in a small store
in town,, my wages being $7 per
month and board, . However,
throughout 'the years things
proved and •iii these later days it
ha?, not been so difficult,° 1+
