That's the "built-in" feature you get when you
buy SHUR-GAIN feeds.. We make SHUR,
GAIN elegy ''at our mill and as a result it is
FRESH. As a matter of fact, feeds you pur-*
chase from us have often been made the same
day you buy them.
Most people don't like stale food. The
same applies to livestock and poultry,
and because they don't like stale, un-
palatable feed, they don't grow and
produce the wail they should. Tests on
. chicks at the SHUR-GAIN Demonstra-
tion Farm PROVED that FRESH feed
outperfoymed stale feed.
To het most effective, Well-balanced rations must
,be fresh. The next time you require feed, call
Us and he assured of fresh feed.

The question is often' asked,
"When is the best time to apply
lime?" The truth is that lime can
he used any time of the year. It
may be spread on the snow; it may
be used in the spring, the summer
or the fall; on sbd, pasture, stubble,
on land being seeded or on summer
fallow.
Observation of growing crops at
this season of the year helps in
determining whether soil really
needs lime. Where yellow' or red-
dish sheep sorrel. appears ea sod
fields in. June, an acid soil is in-
dicated,, poor patches. ari4 stands of
alfalfa a.nd clover 'nay result from
lack of lime, put on cold, wet soil,
lining will not take the place of,
improved drainage. Further par-
ticulars may be had from the
bbolclet "Does Your Soil Need
Lime?" which may he obtained
from agricultural representatives
in every county and district, This
publication includes a map of the
province 'Showing areas where
lime is likely to be needed. Then,
in order to definitely determine
the need for lime, a representative
sample of soil may be sent to the
nearest soil testing laboratory,
There is no charge for this service,
Agricultural limestone is very
inexpensive in the first place, and.
to make its use even more attrac-
tive, transportation assistance Is
provided under a co-operative plan
between the Canada and Ontario
Eepartments of Agriculture, and
the railways. During recent years
movement of lime by truck direct
from quarry or stockpile to fields
has also beeti encouraged, tinder al
