W.M.S. Meeting
The W.M.S. ,met in the United
Church on Thursday afternoon,
with the president, Mrs. ,John
Wickstead, in the chair.
Mrs. Gordon Hall gave the sec-
retary's report ,and' Mrs. Sparling
Johnston the financial report.
The study period was in charge
of Mrs. George Hetherington, who
read the Scripture. Mrs. W. J.
Peacock led in prayer and Mrs.
Sparling Johnston gave a reading,
"Life's Lesson".
Mrs. Hetherington read an in-
teresting letter from a missionary
of the United Church in Neemuch,
India, describing conditions there.
Mrs. James Johnston, in describ-
ing missionary work among In-
dians in Canada, said the Indian
population is 145,000 and it is in-
creasing every year. Twenty thous-
and Indians are in the care of the
United Church with 55 mission
stations.
Indians have too long been kept
separate. They should be encour-
aged to be a part of Canadian life
and to take an interest in com-
munity and national affairs. To
this end Indian and white children
are being educated 'it the same
schools, as far as possible. Indians
should have the same social stand-
ing as other Canadians.
