ons': by Sherwood Fox was the
book elmeen by Mrs. Frank Earls
for an interesting review when
Wrexeter Women's Institute held
the June meeting on Thursday in
-the new eommunity centre,
The speaker opened her remarks
with a: seasonable poem, "What Is
So Rare as a Day in June" by
Russell Lowell, Fame "The Bruce
Beckons" she brought to mind the
loss of ships in the early history,
The passenger pigeons, now al-
most extinct, In the early days
merle a noise like Niagara Falls
and there were so many in flight
they would darken the sky. She
stated 1902 saw the last of the
fishing tourists. Orchids grew in
abundance, and the Indians. used
some of the plants to make valu-
able medicine. Jesuit missionaries
were burned at the stake and the
first Methodist missionary took up
the work in 1831, She spoke of
the lilacs at the cabin door which
were a symbol of faith, The
speaker gave her closing thought
in choice verse.
Mrs, William Taylor gave some
fine thoughts' on co-operation
when she spoke on the motto "If
you don't believe in co-operation
watch a wagon when one wheel
falls off." Mrs. Thomas Burke
gave a report on the recent
officers' conference. Donations
for the Huron County Museum
were requested. ;
The roll call was answered by
a thought for the day. "Treasures
from Your Attic" was first choice
for the, extension course with
"Making. the Most of Your Freez-
er" a close second. Mrs. Lane,
Mrs. H. Timm, Mrs, T. Burke and
Mrs. W. T. MacLean were named
delegates to the East Huron Dis-
trict annual,
The prize rug will be hung in
the new community centre, Plans
were made to enter a W.I. float
at the Howielt Center nial. Miss
K. Hazelwood was pianist and
Mrs. Herb Patterson presided and
expressed appreciation to all who
had taken part in the program.
Hostesses were Mrs. C. gathers,
Mrs. J. Simmons and Mrs. H.
Patterson,
