The annual spring banquet of
the Women Teachers' Federation,
North Huron Association, was held
on June 6th at ,the Hotel Bruns-
wick in Wingham.
The president, Miss Verna Mc,
Laughlin, conducted the businese.
Delegates appointed to the annual
meeting in Toronto were Mrs.
Wightman and. Mrs. Yungblutt,
Officers elected were: President,

A sing-song, led by Mrs. E.
Shore was enjoyed and Miss Gwen
Howe rendered a beautiful solo,

The highlight of the evening
was an address by Miss Caroline
Wellwood, who visited Trinidad
last December. Miss Wellwood
shared the pleasure of her trip by
showing coloured pictures and de-
scribed points of , interest. Miss
Phyllis Johns introduced the guest
speaker and Mrs. Gordon Mundell
moved a vote of thanks to Miss
Wellwood

The completion of a micro-wave
link with the television network of
the Canadian Broadcasting Cora
poration was announced this week
by Scot Reid, chief engineer of
"station CKNX-TV, with the new
link expected to ,go into operation
this coming Saturday,. A "vastly
improved" picture oe. network

the new set-up, with reception on
CBC shows being equal to the for

Whitney Grose was named pre-
sident of the Wingham Lions Club,
at its regular meeting at the
Brunswick Hotel on Friday. He
succeeds H. P. Carmichael who
headed the club during the 1955-56
season, and 'who has been appoint-
ed district deputy governor of
Lions Club's in this area.
Other officers named were: First
vide-president, Jack E. Reavie;
second vice-president,. W. B. Con-
roe; third vice-president, Dr. W.
A. Crawford; secretary, Floyd
Blakely; treasurer, N. J. Welwood;

Lion E. L. Stuckey, chairman of
the charity campaign oosamittee,
reported on the club's 1956 Easter
Seal campaign which showed net
receipts of $1,038 an increase of
$100 over last year.
A letter, was read from the Crip-
pled Children's Association, ad-
vising the club -of plans for a
centre in London which will cost
Approximately $250,000. A financial
campaign to raise money for this
venture will be conducted in Sep-.
tember and the club was asked to
send a representative to a meeting
to be held in London on June 13th
to discuss the matter.
President Carmichael announced
that a television set had 'been pur-
chased by the club for the hospital,
and would be officially presented to
Mrs. Morrey, superintendent, fol-
lowing the meeting.

The tower in Wingham will re-
flect the signal 'to the ground,'
where it will. be picked up by a
smaller reflector on a 10-foot
tower and fed into the network
room of the station, It will, then
be re-broadcast through the sta-
tion's own transmitter, in Carrick
Township,
The entire micro-wave link has
been set up by workmen of the.
Canadian National Telegraphs,
working under contract with the
Canadian Broadcasting Corpora-
tion. The link will'be serviced' and
maintained by C.N,T. and one of
their menwill be on duty perman-
ently to look after its operations.
The new link will go into opera-
tion for the first network show on
Saturday, afternoon, and it is ex-
pected to.add much to the viewing
enjoyment of television audiences
in the district.

to their leaving Wingham. Mrs.
Grover will shortly be leaving for
Winnipeg and Mrs. Dittmer will be

INCREASE SHOWN IN
NUMBER OF X-RAYS
A. substantial increase in the
number of people having chest
X-rays was recorded in Huron
County at the recent mass chest
X-ray survey held in the county
last month. Figures showed that
X-rays increased almost 7,000 over
the total for 1952, and almost 2,000
over the total in the X-ray survey
for 1947.
The following figures show the
breakdown in the county during
the past three. surveys:

'Fifty-four children were register-
ed for Kindergarten at the Wing-
ham Public School registration on
Monday afternoon, and it is pos-
sible that snore will register before
the fall term in September.

creation programs. However, it is
expected that the regular summer

June 6 in the Canadian Legion
Hall, with 20 Members present.
The meeting opened with the Scout
Mothers' Promise, and President
Mrs. Wilf Cengrain gave a brief`.

group had catered.
Mrs. Norman Cameron moved

Presbyterian Church, •whete the
banquet was held. Treasurer Mrs.
John Strong read her report. It was
announced that in future the auxi-
liary will meet in the Canadian
Legion Hall, and that the next
meeting will be held on the first
Wednesday in September;, with the
:Brownie Mothers conducting the
meeting.

The Junior Auxiliary of St. Paul's
Anglican Church, Wingham, has
again been awarded first place in
the annual competitions for, Junior
Auxiliaries in the Diocese of Hur-
on. The local group, competing with
groups from all the major centres
between, Wiarton and Windsor
have wen top honors for the third,
consecutive year.
Individual prize winners from
the local group were Brenda Hall,
Wendy Cronkwright, Alma. Jane
Elliott and Elizabeth Parker. The
group as a whole received first
prize for its diorama chart and
secorid prize ,for the play written
by Patricia Deyell, Ruth Stone and
Patsy Hall,
The individual awarde were pre-
sented by the Bishop, the Right
Rev. G. N. Ltcton, D,D., L.L.D., at
the close of the confirmation ser-
vice last. Sunday morning in St.
Paul's. The Bishop congratulated
each girl as he called her to the
front of the nave to give her the
mark of her award.
On Saturday four girls, who had
won the right by their attendance
and general proficiency, attended
the annual Junior Auxiliary Rally
in London. Making the trip were
Dianne Deyell, Linda Templernan,
Marilyn Higgins and Barbara 'Halt
They were accompanied by Mrs.
Norman Deyell,' who represented
Mrs. H. L. Parker, the leaders of
the juniors in the local church.

in Wingham fee more support for
the Flowerpot Fund was' voiced
this week by Calvin Burke, of the
