MIDNIGHT IN THE FOREST
!Tis night when all the forests sleep
Save slinky weasel, terrible and sly,
Or great horned owl within the
forest 'deep,
And ' harmless chipmunk
scampers by.
A frightful screech is heard from'
overhead:
Just as the crafty, weasel sights its
prey.
A tawny owl swoops from the
cedar bed
And carries the mighty weasel. far
away. •
. •
Now -the silence lingers near
As the, moon appears so gold and
round, ,
And. silhouettes of trees in ghostly
drear
Make dark shadows on the frozen
ground.

HENRY LARSEN .
Oh Larsen was a dauntless man!
',think that he was brave!
Re sailed the Arctic waters,
And never feared its waves!
A sturdy little ship he Sailed,
Be called ,it 'The St. Roch',
It had to carry all his 'men
And seldom did it dock,
At last to Halifax they came
The news spread round 'the world.
Before ,theeyerir was over, though
White sails again uhfurled.
At. Yetricouver's port they, laeded
Wheie ;they had started:- from
And vivid were the tales they told
'Of sailing 'neath the mid-night sun.
The ship sailed round the continent
It wasn't long away,
The name of 'St. Roch' lingers
E'en to this very day.

Sett through the midnight stole
A creature sleek and wary,
A shadow silver eieeth moonbeams
rey$
Brit swift he goes, he mustn't
tarry,
ITe smalls Wong the Pfusture fence
And past the wooded green,.
But then he spies movement
A stray he hadn't seen.
Again he creeps along the bush,
But soon appears again
This time close and closer still
Oh, but te clutch that clear red
vein!
But alas! crack shatters the night
And' - creatures • near and far
Run for the • shelter of their homes
As he lay beneath a shining star.
Though up he comes; he isn't dead
put' oh the pains if only be could
rest.
He limps along the cold grey path
Though: he cannot run, he does his,
best,
Up there ahead behind the grove
'He sees his sheltered den
His wife and four small children,
Oh how he hated men!
'Men killed him if they had a
chance
But worse, they kept hini from his
.food
Which he - needed for his family
