Ft, Lt. Keith Black of Trenton,
spent the week-end with Mr. and
Mrs, .Gordon MacPherson and Mrs.

OPPORTUNITIES
FOR YOUNG MEN
OF SIXTEEN
Do you want to earn while you
learn a trade? Under the Canadian
Army Soldier apprentice Plan, start-
ing 1st Juno, the Canadian Army
will accept c. limited number of
young men for training in 19 differ-
ent trades.
The training course lasts for two
years and then the Apprentice
serves three years with a regular
unit, Training starts in September.
Under this plan the Apprentice
receives -
• Half pay to the age of 17 then
full pay
• 30 days paid holidays a year
• Medical and dental care
• Travel and adventure
• A healthy active outdoor life
To be eligible applicants must be
16, not yet 17, have a Grade 8 edu-
cation, and be able to meet Army
physical standards.
As only a limited number of applic-
ants can be accepted make your
application early.

OW Group Meets
The Marion Williamson Girls'
Group met at the home of Miss
Marion Farrier, The call to worship
and a, prayer were taken by Helen
Ford. Hymn 718: was sung. Tim
Scripture, Acts 27:18-20 and. com-
ments. Wore given by Audrey Oil-
, mour. Joyce Crothers gave a prayer
[which was followed by the singing
of hymn 315.
Sandra Smith read the score--
tary's report which was adopted.
The roll call was given by Sylvia
Alexander and was answered by 12
Members. The offering was taken
and Miss, MacMillan read the Of,
fertory prayer.
A summary of the first chapter
of the study book was given by
Miss MacMillan. Helen Ford gave a
Bible quiz that was followed by the
singing of hymn 109.
Lunch was served and the bene-
diction pronounced.

Plan Breakfast
The regular monthly meeting of
the Catholic Women's League was
held on Tuesday evening at the
home of Mrs, Walter Lockridge.
The president, Mrs. Chris Newman
opened the meeting with prayer.
The secretary, Mrs, Ed. Palmer
read the minutes of the April
meeting.
Plans were made to cater to a
communion breakfast for the young
Ladies' Sociality.
Mrs. Chris Newman, Miss Anne
Morrison and Mrs. Walter Lock-
ridge were appointed delegates to
the C.W.L, convention to be held
in London this month.
Mrs. Harold Ross read a story on
Prayer. Mrs. Frank Caskanette
moved a vote of thanks to ' the
hostess.
The meeting closed with prayer
led by, the president. Lunch was
served by the hostess.

ST. HELENS-Taking as her
Mrs. A. E. McKim of Lucknow,
gave an interesting and informa-
tive talk at the meeting of the
Women's Institute held in the com-
munity hall on Thursday after-
noon with a large attendance.
She listed as community inter-
ests, the school, the church and
church school and the youth move-
ments such as the 4-H Club, Boy
Scouts and the Girl Guides. She
dealt mainly with the Girl Guides
With which association the thas
been very active, both' in the
Lucknow group which was organ-
ized 38 years ago, and in the larger
field.
Mrs, Andrew Gaunt, president for
the meeting and the roll call was
responded to by telling what the
Institute should do for the com-
munity, The main suggestion was
of cleaning up and beautifying our
homes and grounds and cleaning
up the roadsides.
It was announced that the short
course on salads would be heleon
June 19th and it was agreed to
invite the Dungannon branch. An
invitation from the Lucknow In-
stitute for June 8 was accepted.
The short course on sandwiches
for all occasions was chosen for
next year with "Food for the
Family" as second choice.
Mrs. A. Gaunt, Mrs. E. Barbonr,
Mrs. Chas. McDonald and Mrs.
Frank McQuillin will be the dele-
gates to the district annual meet-
ing to be held in Blyth on June 6.
It was .decided to try changing the
time of the meeting to 2 'o'clock
for the next two months.
Johnny Gibb sang a song and
Mrs. R. Gammie read a poem. The
motto, "An organization .is like a
wheel barrow, it stands still unless
you push it" prepared by Mrs: Jas.
Curran was read by Mrs. Frank
lvIcQuillin. Mrs. Barbour reported
on the executive meeting' held at
Carlow.
The matter of cleaning up the
cemetery was brought up and it
was decided to leave it over so the
men might. be consulted about what
should be done.
At the conclusion a pleasant
social hour was enjoyed when lunch
was served with Mrs. Gordon Mac-
Pherson and Mrs. W. A. Miller as
hostesses.
