FORMER RESIDENT
SENDS FITTING POEM
FOR CENTENNIAL
GORREn• Mrs, R. B, Abell, the
former Margaret Newton submit-
ted the following Poem to the pub-
licity chairman of liowlek Cons
teanial donirnittee:
There 18 a charm that seems to
linger
All arotind our village street,
With nod and smile, or gay "Hello,"
From all who chance to meet,
Though it may not boast of grand.
cur,
Or 'fame or great renown,
Still we love each nook and siorner,
•Of oar old fume town.
1 There are trees whose leafy cool-
Lend a ithefter from the aun,
Which our old-lime friends and
neighbors
One° had planted one by one,
their over-arching branches
Whisper seftly bending down;
We are sure our kincliy planters
Loved our old home town. -
' •
There 'the young folk often gather
In the summer and the fall
To enjoy an hour of pleasure
In a friendly game of
And the old folk meet and visit
While the sun is going down,
To -recall "old times, and doings,"
Of the old home town,
There the joy of some achievement
Brings a thrill to every heart,
While each grief or bitter sorrow
Of our own becomes a part,
For a sacred bond of loyalty,
Unites beneath its crown,
The people past and present
Of our old home town.
