During the course of the meeting the basketball schedule for '54 was drawn, up, with most of the zames scheduled to be played on Thursdays and Fridays. The possibil- ity of night games in Clinton and Goderich was discussed. It was agreed that three games would be played at each contest, the junior boys', girls' and the senior boys' games. The first of the games will be play- ed here on Jan. 21, when Wingham will be host to Seaforth. The basket- ball season will end, somewhere around the last of February, The re- ferees for the boys' games are to come from the Clinton Air Force School. The 50% rule is still found to be in force for this season, Under It, a stud- ent must obtain an average of at least 50% in order to be eligible for partici- pation in the inter-school games, It is the hope of the students of W,D. H.S. that, although we have not as many upper school players as in other years, the season for Wingham will be a successful one. Robert Westlake 0 - 0 AROUND SCHOOL With the thoughts of approaching Christmas holidays in our minds, we students of Wingham Maid High School haven't been paying too much attention to our school work lately, Mr. Woolfrey, for example, discovered that XIIA students were more inter- ested in the coming Christmas formal dance than in history. Of course now that both the dance and the school term are over we have a minute or' two a day to do as we please. One of the most wonderful things about school is the joy of holidays. No mat- ter how studious or Latin-loving a student is, he or she sooner or later gets tired of it all and longs for a rest. Well, kids, this. it iti This. is what we weredreaming vt all the time we were, studying for those awful exanis, .and the many tests we've had since. The dance 'last night in the Arm, glides was a great success and every, ono there had a wonderful time, We were glad to see SWIM grade 1:‹ faxeS in the crowd. This 1904 formal *moo will provide 'us with. happy memories for years to come. 4Ianuary 4th, kids, have tun, because for this you have endured school ..since September. Catherine Keating COUNTY HEALTH UNIT WINDS UP YEAR WITH DINNER AT CLINTON Members of the board and staff of the Huron County Health Unit mark- ed the final meeting of the year last Wednesday by a dinner at Hotel Clin- ton, after which a board meeting was held. A vote of appreciation was extended to Board Chairman Stanley Snyder, reeve of •Colborne Township and to Harvey Johnston, reeve of Morris Township, who are retiring from pub- lic life this year. At the board meeting, a report pre- sented by Miss Norah Cunningham, supervisor of nursing, showed that nurses of the unit have made, between January and November of 1953, a total of 3,899 home visits. 234 Clinics Held There were 234 immunization clinics, where 4,729 inoculations and 1,063 vac- cinations were given. Chest and X-ray clinics during the 11 months totaled 49, with an attend- ance of 842. There were 188 elemen- tary schools visited by the nurses, at which 8,259 pupils were examined. In their school service, th4 nurses excluded 33 pupils for communicable conditions; gave special inspections to 742 new pupils, and 6,415 regular health inspections, while 5,796 vision tests were given. Director of the unit, Dr, R. M. Ald- is reported that the unit was pleased to have worked with school boards throughout Huron County in such matters as lighting, heating, ventila- tion, sanitary facilities, correcting dangerous construction and other matters, "As in other lines of progress, co- operation is the secret of success," he said.
