On Parade!
On Monday, December 21, traitang
was at a standstill in the 09th Bat-
tery as a few members were engaged
in wrapping Christmas presents for
the kiddies' party to be held in the
Wingham Armouries on Wednesday,
December 23rd. Very few were elected
to pack candies and popcorn but they
had to be spelled off as they were half
eaters, that is one half in bag one half
in mouth, At the end of the evening
Santa's little elves had everything pre-
pared for the party.

This was the last parade for this
year and training will commence 'after
the new year. The exact date is not
known but will be made available
soon, so have an eye, fellows,

Looking back over the past year,
we have many memories and happy
times to think about—and laugh about,
We are hoping for the same next
year, I think that the first point that
is brought to mind is the number of
new recruits and if we have as many
in the coming year this Battery will
be nearly full strength, If we lose the
same amount we won't have enough
strength to pull a clucking hen off
a nest,
0 - 0 - 0
The training in this unit has been
the best in the last year, in fact, we
might go so far as to say the best in
years and far more interesting. An-
other thing is promotions. More pro-
motions have been given in the past
two years than have been in five. We
are really well established for good
NCO,s and promotions are up to the
man himself, and must be quite easy
or how else would fellows like Sgt.
Buck Sinnamon, Sgt. John Blackwell
and a few others—but you know what
NCOs are, don't you? You don't? Why
they are people who can clean their
ears with a piece of string.
0 - 0 - 0
But some memories are not as plea-
sant as others. By this I mean the
loss of Battery Members, either by re-
tirement or moving out of the area—
people like Major Roy Bonner, Sgt.
Major Bill Forsythe, Bdr, Ken Under-
wood, O/C Jerry Hignell and a few
others, Men like these are hard to re-
place, All we can do is hope that the
men replacing them will fill their posi-
tions equally well, and as far as I
can see, they are doing very well.

Another thing that es brought to
mind is the pay increase for the army
"tycoons", It is really worthwhile new
to have your hand out in front of the
paymaster at Christmas and spring
pay parades, but don't believe too

like us, and haven't got all your
Christmas shopping done at this late
date, yeu'll no doubt be in a flap this
very moment, wondering what you
can do about it, There's hope for you
yet, even though there's only one
more shopping day until Christmas.
But don't put it off too late, because
even though the shops are open on
Christmas Eve, the people who work
there would like to get home at a
respectable hour, too,
If you're stuck for ideas for last-
minute gifts, here's a few culled from
last week's Advance-Times, Which
might help you with your 'problems.

fully wrapped for Christmas, which
could be the ideal last-minute Christ-
mas gift—if you don't leave it too
long, The WALL PAPER SHOP

broadloom rugs for the home, We
doubt if you'll have them installed at
this late date but they'd probably give
you a gift certificate if nothing but a

of smaller last-minute gifts there, too,
for someone you have forgotten . .

turkey, better give LAIDLAW'S a call
