appendectomy on Saturday in the
Palmerston Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs, Glenn Doig, of St.
Catharines, spent the week-end with

the week-end at his home here.
Bruce Sothern, Wm. Sothern Sr.,
and Mr. and Mrs. Ira Schaefer attend-
ed the funeral in Stratford on Monday
of the late Mr. Tom Cruickshank.

spent the week-end with her parents.

spending a couple of weeks with his

spent the week-end with her parents.

The Fordwich Community Hall was
filled to capacity on Wednesday even-
ing when the pupils of S.S. No, 17
Fordwich, presented their operetta,
"Kathleen, the Maid of Killarney".
Margaret McCann took the part of
Kathleen, Clayton Cober played th4
part of her lover, Donna Wray was
Kathleen's rival. Donna Seifert was
Bridget, Bob Rumple was Timothy
and other pupils from the senior room
were the town's people, singing sev-
eral songs and taking part in Irish
dances in their fancy costumes.
Juniors and seniors each sang
groups of Christmas songs. At the
close of the evening, Mrs. Carl Doug-
las, music teacher, was presented with
a gift of money on behalf of the
teachers and pupils of Fordwich,
WI. Christmas Meeting
The Fordwich Women's Institute
met for the 1December meeting in the
Community Hall. Mrs, Howard Harris,
president, opened the meeting with the
singing of the Institute Ode followed
by the-Mary Stewart Collect. Mrs. W.
Sothern read the Scripture lesson and
Mrs. McCann gave the motto, "I will
honor Christmas in my heart and try
to keep it all year". Roll call was
answered by all members, each giving
some interesting and helpful Christ-
mas hint, and by the members hand-
ing in a gift to be sent to the home
for the Aged at Clinton.
Congratulations were read from
Anna P. Lewis on the Fordwich in-
stitute winning third prize in the ,Sa-
lada Tea contest. The meeting was
then turned over to Mrs. Anson Dem-
erling, who was in charge of the pro-
gram.
Mrs. H. Harris gave readings on
several Christmas carols telling when
they were first originated and as she
gave the history of the carols each
were sung. Mrs. R. Graham, Mrs. R.
Devitt favored with a piano duet.
Mrs, ken Graham rendered a solo
and Mrs. McCann gave a reading en-
titled, "Christmas at the Purple
Bean" Mrs. S. Johnson and Mrs. Dem-
erling led in some interesting contests
and games, after which the children
were presented with their candy bags.
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Robert Gibson. The
meeting closed with the National An-.
them and a delicious lunch was serv-
ed.
Injured Playing Hockey
Ivan Campbell suffered a very pain-
ful injury to his eye on Thursday
evening in Mi/dmay during a hockey
game between Neustadt and Fordwich.

Elects Officers
The December meeting of St. Paul's
Evening Guild was held at the rectory
with three visitors attending.
The meeting opened with singing
"0 Little Town of Bethlehem" fol.
lowed by prayer by the president, Mrs.
M. Templeman,
Reports were heard from the treas-
urer, visiting and sewing committees,
also from the Christmas card commit-
tee, after which one of our guests,
Mrs. Worm.worth gave a very interest-
ing talk on her work in a library in
England.
A delicious lunch was then served.
The hostesses being Miss Lillian Ella-
cott, Mrs. Miller Davis and Mrs, H. L,
Parker,
The January meeting is to be held
at the home of Mrs, L, M, Wedd.
The officers for the coming year
are as follows: president, Mrs. Bouch-
er; 1st. vice-pres., Mrs. Wedd; . 2nd.
vice-president, Miss Mary Johnston;
secretary, Miss Florence Harris;
treasurer, Mrs. Jack King; sewing

S, S. No, 9 Kinioss held their annual
Christmas concert on Monday even-
ing. •
Miss Joan Wightman spent the
week-end at the home of her aunt,
Mrs. Alex Young, of Lucan.
Nurse Olive Terriff of the Listowel
Hospital staff, ip spending this week
with her mother, Mrs. Mac Ross.
Mrs. James Cornelius received word
last week of the passing of her nep-
hew, Mr. Asher Gray, of Calgary.
Mr. and Mrs. George Fisher and
family spent Sunday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Toby Jantzi of Milver-
ton.
Mr. F. MeK. Paterson leaves this
Wednesday to visit at the home of
Mr. Fred Paterson of Leamington, and
at the home of his sons in Detroit.
S. S. No. 10, Kinloss, held their
Christmas concert on Wednesday
evening, when a large crowd gathered.
Santa came and distributed the gifts
from the well-laden tree. Lunch was
served and Tiffin Brothers provided
music for the dancing.
Quite a crowd gathered in the Un-
ited Church for the Sunday School
concert, when Rev, W. J. Watt was
chairman. All sang carols and the
children gave their recitations and
among the Christmas dialogues was
the short play, "Christmas at the
Boarding-house," presented by the
young people of the Young Adult
Class. Santa came and distributed the
gifts, from ' the tree and all enjoyed'
the evening together.
Wdrd has been received here recent-
ly of the passing of Mrs. John Mac-
Kay, formerly Maude McDonald, of
Whitechurch, Mrs. MacKay had been
an invalid for the past six years. in-
terment was at Wawota, Sask.
Farmers in this district are incensed
against the motorits, who have come
into their wood-lots or plantations
this winter even on Sundays and cut
down the young trees for their Christ-
mas trees and quickly slipped away.
In several instances the numbers on
the cars have been taken. This hardly
seems a fair deal,
Farm Formu Meets
Whitechurch farm forum met on
Monday evening at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Jas. Laidlaw with an at-
tendance of 19. John Purdon was ap-
pointed chairman for January, with
Miss Lila Emerson and Mrs. Jas. Fal-
coner on the lunch committee. The
next meetine, will be held at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Myles St Marie, Mrs,
Cecil Falconer and Mr. Jas. Falconer
held high points in the euchre games,
with Mrs. Ste Marie and Mr, Chas.
Martin holding low points. Lunch was
served and the social time enjoyed by
all.
Personals
Brick Church postponed their
Christmas concert last Friday even-
ing and held it this Monday with a
splendid attendance and a good pro-
gram.
Many will be interested to know
that the old school-bell off Zetland
school is now in the County Museum,
at Goderich.

Community Hall Filled for
School Children's Operetta

The regular meeting of St. Paul's
Ladies' Guild was held on December
17th with the president, Mrs. Connell,
presiding.
The meeting was opened with the
singing of Christmas carols and read-
ing of the General Confession and the
Lord's prayer. The minutes of the
previous meeting were read and ap-
proved, after which the treasurer's
report was read, showing the pro-
ceeds of a very successful bazaar.
A sum of money was voted the
secretary for the annual Christmas
boxes for the sick and shut-ins.
The president retired from the
chair after thanking everyone for
their loyalty and support in the, past
year and also giving special thanks
to the Rev. and Mrs. Parker for their
co-operation and help.
Mr. Parker presided for the elec-
tion of officers for the coming year.
