Mr. Bert Cullimore who won first

work of stations which included
CKNN.
On Friday representatives of the
United Church choir called on Mr. J.
H, Christie their former leader, and
presented him with a very fine house
jacket. Signed on behalf of the choir,

Wilkinson.

The Christmas season is upon us,
and it appears as though the wise are
busy cutting the Christmas trees and
spruce boughs that will be used for
Christmas decorations, There is a
great thrill for the iskieliee to go out
in the bush and cut their own Christ-
mas tree, It is just like catching your
own turkey, or building yopr own'
heese. Yoe get a little more personal:
pride, in something you do with your
own hande, than something you buy ',
or have given to you. There is only
one thing that you have to watch in a
case of this kind„ . ft is the duty of
the parents to instill in their children
a respect for other people's property,
and sadly enough, there is always a
great disrespect for other people's pro-
perty just before Christmas. People
cut down trees in bushlands, woodlote,
in Department of Highway lots, and
wherever they can find them stand-
ing. I wonder if they have ever stop-
ped to figure out how much time and
trouble it took to grow those neat-
looking groves of spruce and pine
trees that are so attractive at this
time of year. It takes a lot of work, a
lot of disappointment and a lot of,
time to get a demonstration woodlot
growing, and it is pretty disgusting to
have someone help themselves to it.
I hope that you will think it over
thoroughly before you take the axe
and go out to cut down a tree.
The same thing goes for the people
who go out hunting on farm property
and show little or no respect for
fences, gates, livestock or other pro-
perty. The hunting season always
brings about a flock of complaints
from farmers who have cattle shot at,
fences buckled, gates left open, and
dogs frightened half out of their wits.
People swarm over their fields, shoot-
ing at everything that moves and us-
ing the imobile things as targets for
target practice. Many of these people
are the same ones who raise a horrible
hubbub if their neighbour's dog strolls
across their garden, or the neighbour's
kids, play on their front lawn, Park
your car in front of their house over
night and they'll firmly invite you
to move it somewhere else. If you
make too much noise they pass a
caustic noise about the noisy neigh-
bours. Luckily on our side of town
we haven't any of these people, but
there are plenty of this type who are
very fussy about their own property,
but have little concern for the pro-
perty of others, when they Lake to
the field in seacrch of game or a
Christmas tree. There is an old Bibli-
cal quotation, "Do unto others as you
have them do unto you." This could
be applied to our every day living
without a bit of trouble. It might
make for a lot better rural-urban rela-
tions too. After all, the farmer who is
sometimes considered a crank, in
many cases has cause for his attitud-
es.
