Plans for Holy Hour
Discussed by C.Y.O.
The December meeting of the Sac-
red Seart C.Y.O. was held in the par-
ish hall, on Sunday evening, the pre-
sident, Alex Sproal, opened the meet-
ing with the C.Y.O. prayer.
It was decided to have a Holy Hour
in January. Plans arc being made to
have Father Colliton as guest speaker.
There was a discussion on the mov-
ies "Martin Luther" and "The Robe,"
Plans are being made for a draw in
March.
Mr. Joe Moir gave a few selections
on his guitar, and also sang a solo,
"White Christmas"'. Miss Mary Hihn
gave very enjoyable accordion selec-
tions accompanied by Sally Slosser,
Alex Sproal read a story "Down on
the Farm."
The president closed the meeting
with prayer. Lunch was served by
Misses Shirley Chettleburgh, Mary
Hihn and Audrey Ste Marie. The next
meeting to be held on January 3rd.,
1954.
THE VOICE OF TEMPERANCE
Dr. R. G. Belt, medical director of
Shadowbrook Health Foundation, told
an audience recently, "Many of the
country's alcoholics need never have
been addicted had they known the
danger signals early in life". Our
youth in Huron County and through-
out Ontario will grow up knowing
the danger signals if advantage is
taken of present Department of Edu-
cation regulations. For Alcohol Edu-
cation is now an obligatory subject
of study of Grades Ten and Eleven.
The Departmnet is being urged to
extend this teaching' down into
Grades seven and eight since many
students never reach Grade nine. It
goes without saying that in Churches
and Sunday School alcohol education
should be carried on continuously.
A very excellent Teacher's Manual
for Alcohol Education has recently
been produced by the Ontario De-
partment of Education, Preachers,
Sunday School teachers and leaders
of young peoples' groups interested
in this vital subject will find this
manual invaluable. —Advt.
