The latest -edition of an ever popular
book, the telephone directory, is being
delivered this week to subscribers in
Wingham, H. H. P. Johnston, Bell
Telephone manager for this -region,
announced this. week. !Unlike some
"best-sellers," whose popularity fades,
the directory Is in even go.eater de-
eland this year since 9,160 copies are
being distributed throughout the area
it serves, as compared with 8,795 last
year.
The new directory goes to subscrib-
ers in Durham, Hanover, Walkerton,
and Harriston, besides Wingham. In
Wingham alone the increase in the
initial distribution is from 1,360 copies
to 1,420.
Because the new directory contains
2,346 new and changed listings, Mr.
Johnston urges subscribers to throw
jaway the old book as soon as the
new one arrives and thus avoid eita
barrassment, annoyance and lost time
caused by calling wrong numbers, To
distinguish it from last year's buff-
bound edition, the new directory has
a green cover.
Mr. Johnston adds a tip on long
distance calling. "To get speedier ser-
vice," he suggests, "the subscriber
should call by number So the local
operator does net have to ask 'Infer,
nation' at the distant point for the
number of the person called."
Distribution of the directory here is
a relatively small, yet important, part
of the immense publishing feat being
performed by Bell this year, Two
lion pages are eequired for the total
of 2,66'7,000 of ail the telephone elem.
parry's directories issued throughout
its Ontario--Quebec territory. All dila
eetories to be distributed this year will
use Pp 2,786 tons of paper.
