Howick Council Members
Returned by Acclamation
The work of remodelling the Bel-
grave .school building has been coin-
Dieted .anti the classes are now in their
.new quarters. The school building has
been enlarged to include a second
.classroom. The new room is built
with plywood walls and red vinyl tile
floor. A new ceiling has been built in
the original classroom and' the walls
have been painted light blue. In ad-
dition a new furnace room has been
.built and an oil furnace installed and
the size of the play ground has been
increased by extensions to the north
.and ,south.
The junior grades of the school
have been housed in the Orange Hall
since January, 1949, when the enrol-
ment became too high for the one
,class room. The, senior grades have
occupied the club room of the Com-
munity Hall since the school was be-
nig completed, Total cost of the eon-
,struction amounts to about 431818.
It is expected that a substantial
government grant will be received in
the coming year toward the cost,
Euchre Clubs Meet
The euchre clubs of this community
met .as usual last week. High prize
winners at the Belgrave Club were
Mrs. R, Coultes and Jesse Wheeler
and low winners were Mrs, Chris,
Nethery and Martin Gra.sby.
The ninth line euchre club met at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Woods. High prizes went to Kay Nay-
lor and Clarence Hanna. Consolation
prizes went to Betty Woods and Gar-
,don Woods.
Club /0 met at the home of Mr. and
Mrs, Robert Grasby. High prizes were
worn by Mrs. Clifton Walsh and Mr.
George Midhle. Low prizes were wan
by Mrs, Harold Vincent and George
Martin.
Guild Elects Officers
The December meeting of Teiniey
Anglican Church was held at the
home of. Mrs. A. Bacon On Thursday,
laTonember, 26th, with seventeen /bom-
bers present.
The opening hymn was, "O, Little
Town of Bethlehem". Rev. IV.
Bramwell led 'in devotions and Mrs.
Richard Procter read the Gospel for
Christmas Day beginning at St. John
1:1.
The Minutes of the last meeting
were read by Mrs. C, Wade and the
financial statement was given by
Mrs. .1. C. Nethery.
During the business period the
Members decided to donate candy and
peanuta for the children's Christmas
treat.
The election of officers for 1904 was
as follows: Re-elected for president,

Mrs. Claire VanCamp; secretary, Mrs,
Jack VartCamp; treasurer, re-elected,
Mrs, J, C. Nethery; quilt convener,

A reading, titled, "The Spirit of
Christmas", was read by Mrs. Claire
VanCarnp.

byterietn Church for the past six years,
has accepted a call to the Rodney and
New Glasgow Presbyterian Churches.

Nomination meeting for Howick
Township council was held in the
Gorrie Community Hall on Friday ef-
ternoqn, Warren Zerbrigg was in the
chair. Harry Gowdy and E. H. Strong
Were nominated for reeve, B, H.
Strong withdrew. Arthur Gibson and
Emerson Hargrave received noanina-
tion for deputy reeve. Emerson
Hargrave withdrew, Harvey McMich-
ael, Ivan Haskins, Elmer Kaufman,
Ira Schaefer and Hilbert Wylie were
nominated for council, the two latter
withdrawing.

Suffers Painful Hand Injury
Wm. Bennett, con. 12, Howick,
narrowly eseapect having his arm
drawn into his cornpieker while clean-
ing it at Zeigler'e farm, Highway 87,
where he had been operating it. The
two front fingers of his left hand
were severely injured, the end and
flesh of the first finger being torn off.

Win Debating Competition
At the Huron County debating con-
test of Junior Farmers and Junior
Institutes organizations in Seaforth on
Friday evening, Miss Grace Edgar
and Campbell Brown, of the Howick
Juniors Club, were winner in the de-
nate, "Resolved that the Junior Far-
mers and Junior Institute Clubs are
satisfactorily serving the purpose for
which they were organized." They
took the affirmative and won over
Donald Dow and Murray Bradburn of
the Belgrave Junior Farmers.
