But the residents regard it with little sentiment since it slows down traffic and there's a $20 fine ,for anyone driving faster than a Snail's pace through'it. In a poll, it was found the majority of citizens would like to see it removed. The bridge, built in 1920, stretches across the St. John river for 1,282 feet. Talking to Athol Purdpn last week, he was telling us that sometimes it's difficult for people to Visualize how carpet is going to look on the floor, just from seeing a swatch of it. He figurea you get a lot better idea if you can see a big bolt of it on the floor—more or less under the con- ditions it will appear in your home, The trouble is that Purdon's don't normally carry a large supply of car- pet bolts on hand—in fact, very few stores do, They have swatches of the material in little pieces, but as we said before it's pretty hard to get the picture from a piece of carpet a Rohner Harmonicas from $1.00 Elizabeth Arden Colognes and Gift Sets from 75c Billfolds and Men's Fitted Cases - All Prices Viewmaster 3D Sets $2.95 Reels - SOC Pen & Pencil' Sets WATERMAN and SHEAFFER from $2.50 Add this to his gifts • . In other words, seeing an ar- ticle through the customer's eyes. We all have our own likes and dis- likes, and if a buyer in the glftware business could trust his own taste, all Would be well, Trouble is, not every- body liken the same sort of thing. So a buyer has to picture what the cue- tomer would like, instead of what he likes himself, and that isn't always very easy, However, as Viola points out, it's the sprt of thing that comps to you after yon have been in the business for a while. She even claims you can tell by the look of a customer what type pf article he will probably pur- chase, and that, in our opinion, would take a lot of insight. "Missing in Action" "Missing in Action!" is that what they said? When they told you I did not return From that journey I took to join the brave dead, —But I know that for me your hearts yearn. I hope you'll remember, Dear mother and dad, That I am just over the hill With a host of my buddies, and we'll be so glad When you come--and I know that you will. Now don't be downhearted; just keep looking up Above tree tops and mountains so high; Or walk among daisies and bright buttercups That reflect the sun's rays from the sky. And there you will hear me as I whisper low That I love you, and you'll see my smile; My buddies and I just want you to know That our journeying here was worth while. For here we have gathered in one happy throng, Far away from all hatred and war; So just keep on listening and you'll hear our song, Till you cross to this wonderful shore. Mrs. M, A. FAMILY SAVED BY INFANT'S CRY— A small child's cry for a drink of water early Monday morning is cred- ited with saving the lives of her par- ents, Mr. and Mrs, Ed. Seibert, Main Street, Palmerston. Mr, Seibert was awakened by the child and smelled smoke in the house. The fire 'was discovered in a pile of cord wood in the basement. The Palmerston Fire Brigade was called out at 2,45 am. and had the fire under control at 5 a.m. However It started anew in a partition and the brigade was back again at seven to put this out.
