THE VOICE OF TEMPERANCE This "Voice" has been silent for some time past, But The Voice of Temperance for Ontario has been very vocal in a practical way. There has just come to hand a summary of the results of all the Local Option votes for the years 1947 to 1952, in- clusive, and it makes good reading. This summary lists all the different questions on which a vote was re- corded, such as beverage rooms, cock- tail lounges, brewers' stores, etc. In some cases it was only one, in one ease all eight possible questions were submitted. Incidentally the vote on that occasion went solidly more than 75% dry on every question. The Ont- ario summary shows that ninety-two % of the votes held went against liquor and four for liquor. This fact should be noted too. The Trade is choosing its ground for' contests much more carefully now than formerly, Only Where they think they have a good chance of winning do they join Issue.-ADVT. Lunch was nerved and a hearty vote of appreciation was given to Mr. Mae- Intosh„ The next meeting will be held at 'the home of Mr, and Mrs. Robert Pardon, Personals Mr. and Mrs, John Pardon visited on Tuesday at the home at her sister, Mrs, Olive Bruce and her family', of Wallacebtirg, Mr, and Mrs. jack Gillespie and family, of Wingham, visited on, Sun- day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs, W. WHITECERCH Farm Forum Meets Whitechurch farm forum met on Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jas, Falconer, in the village, with an attendance of 25. Two groups discussed the questions, the dairy business and its products, and how it is affected by the sale of margarine, All agreed that it would be a calamity in this country to have the margarine products compete with the dairy pro- ducts to such an extent that farmers could not make a satisfactory living and have to turn to producing some other line of livestock or a cash crop. All thought that the laws of- Ontario to guard this situation were as good as in the other provinces, R. Macintosh, of Wingham Co-Op., was present and led in a very inter- esting and instructive discussion, showing the new foil wrap for butter, that has been inaugurated by this Co-op., and telling of the many dif- ferent lines of marketing. He said that the sale of margarine only affect- ed butter sales in this district by 5% in 1948 and even at that they had 4% greater sales in Canada last year with surplus of 60 million lb, This was at- tributed to the good rich milk produc- ed ,in this district. He told of the new products pro- duced at the Guelph Co-op, such as Ready Whip and how cream that had been separated on the farm, was superior in holding its flavour to any other, and he asked that farmers keep on supplying a good quality. He told of the thousands of broilers and larger fowls that are eviscerated and marketed in hampers from this Co-op, along with the egg grading and egg shipping side-line, and told where the money gathered in June, from farm- ers' cream out-put, was paid out in different lines of advertising.
