"Canada moves forward on the feet
of her children" was the topic dis-
cussed by Mrs. Alvin Moffat at the
August meeting of the Womens Instit-
ute, held in Masonic club rooms on
Wednesday, with twenty-five 'mem-
bers and visitors in attendance. The
speaker recalled the death of Our
Beloved Sovereign the late King
George and the willingness of Queen
Elizabeth to-carry on in the footsteps
of her father by devoting her whole
life torth? Empire,
Mrs. Ken Webster R. N,, spoke on
the value of inoculation and vaccin-
ation which was much appreciated, es-
pecially by mothers of young child-
ren. Mrs, D, S. MacNaughton led in a
discussion on Eating to Reduce. Some
points were mental attitude, having
will power to resist food, cating wrong
foods, and between-meal snacks, Miss
Darleen Brothers favoured with a
solo, accompanied by her mother, Mrs.
Lyle Brotherts, who also led in group
singing. President Mrs. John Lane,
presided.
Mrs, HarveY*Timm read letters from
several who had been remembered
when ill, also matter pertaining to the
coming A C. W. W. convention to be
held in Toronto this month. Delegates
appointed were Mrs. Lane, Mrs. Bert
Martin, Mrs. W. T. MacLean, Mrs. R.

Word was received stating the Ex-
tension service "Cultural Activities"
chosen ,by Wroxeter Branch will be
held on November 12th in the club

ment, in charge. This one day course
will be open to anyone in the com-
munity wishing to attend.

Branch, spent the week-end with Mr.

Brothers returned with them for a
short holiday.

dancers, who won first place recently

Andy Gibson, who is in Wingham
General Hospital following an acci-
dent in which he received a compound
fracture of the leg, expects to be able
to return home this week,
Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton and John,
spent Sunday with Mrs, I. -I, Gamble,
of Fordwich, who has just returned
from a five week trip to the west
coast.
Mr. and Mrs. F, B, Miliward Spent
the week-end in Toronto. Carol and
Ernie who have been holidaying in

Leaves For Camp
it Was a happy group of boys who
met at Pete Dobson's store Saturday
to board the bus for Camp Kitchagami
Camp, which is situated seven miles
from Goderich, Howick children en-
joy this yearly privilege through the
generosity of The Howlett Lions Club
which pays all expenses over the fee
of $5,00, Ken Edgar, local school tea-
cher was in charge of the Wroxeter
group, While the director of the camp
is Gordon Mullins and Miss Marie Mc-
Callum, both of Listowel,
Children were asked to bring a mat-
tress for a single bed two warm blank-
ets and two sheets, also a can of vege-
tables or peanut butter. When the
boys return next Saturday there will
be an eager group of girls to take their
places, Parents and friends may visit
camp on Sunday only, For several
years Howick Lions Club have made
it possible for the children of this
community to have a happy, well sup-
i ervised holiday, Arts and crafts, swim-
ming, sunset vespers and sports all I add up to "A holiday to be remember-
ed."
Buds .of Promise
The Buds of Promise Mission Band
of the United Church were treated to
a picnic by their leaders on Friday
!afternoon at the village park. Thirty-
five were in attendance and a well ar-
ranged programme of games was car-
ried out, with refreshments served.
Leaders in charge were Mrs. Merwyn
Grainger, Mrs. Stuart Higgins, Mrs.
Lloyd Magee, Mrs. Jim Sanderson and
Mrs. Ken Edgar.
In Charge of Service
Mr. Cunningham, of Ligtowel, was
in charge of the morning service at
Salem and Wroxeter United Church,
on Sunday last. The speaker took for
his text Romans, Chapter 12, verse 1,
"I beseech you therefore, brethren,
by the mercies of God that ye present
your bodies a living sacrifice wholly
acceptable unto God, which is your
reasonable service," and pointed out
the need for Christians to stand fast
in these troubled days. The choir un-
der the direction of Mrs, Brothers
sang an anthem. Following the ser-
vice Mr. Cunningham and Mrs. Wil-
liamson, who accompanied him, were
entertained at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. G. A. Wearring. Sunday next,
August
holiday.

Mrs. James McTavish, who has
spent the past two months in Saskat-
chewan and Manitoba, returned home
on Saturday. Miss Mildred Henning,
who accompanied her, went on to
Vancouver and will remain in the
west for some time yet. Mrs. McTav-
ish reports an interesting arid enjoy-
able holiday.
Miss Vera Piercy, London, is a guest
of Mrs. Mac Allen this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Munro and Win-
nifred Munro are enjoying this week
SALESMAN FINED
A Centralia salesman, charged with
carrying eloaded pistol, pleaded guilty
in county magistrates court Tuesday
and was fined $50 and costs. Alterna-
tive i5 20 days in jail,
Ralph Honsberger, :36, was arrested
early Monday on the OutSkitts of Cen-
tralia, by Corp. .3. H. Fulton and Con-
stables Lloyd A. 1VreClure and Keith
Carruthers, of the London Provincla
