has been invited to attend the social
meeting of the W.M.S. of St, Helens
United Church this Wednesday.
Mr, and Mrs. Hugh MacMillan and
two daughters, from San Antonio,
Texas, have been visiting over the
week-end at the home of the differ-
ent MacMillan brothers, in Kinloss
and Lucknow. They leave here this
week to take the boat from Tober-
mercy to the Soo.
Mr, and Mrs. Gilbert Beecroft and
their children, her mother, Mrs. Rob-
ert Watson, and Miss Janet Wilson,
of Brucefield, spent Wednesday at
the O.A.C. They visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Melville Beeeroft and their fam-
ily, of Ottervilie, who had been en-
joying "Family' Week" at the College,
after taking the short course there
this summer,
Rev. Bailie, of the Presbyterian
Church, Bluevale, will be in charge of
the service in the United Church here
for the next ,three Sundays, while
Rev. R. A. Brook is on vacation.
Mrs. Roy McInnis, John and Caro-
line, of Toronto, have been speeding
the past few weeks at their home in

week-end and Patsy, who had been
visiting for three weeks at Timmins,

word on Sunday of the passing of
Mrs. Robert Laidlaw, of Powasson.
She was the daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs, McCartney and was in her
fortieth year, Besides her husband,
she leaves to mourn her rive children,

Misses Beatrice Hargrave and
Gwenneth Bride entertained on Sat-
urday evening at the latter's home, in
honor of Miss Joan Vittie, bride-elect
of this month, when about twenty girls
presented her with a pantry shower,
The evening was spent in games and
contests, after which Joan was invited
to the sun room where the presenta-
tion was made.
She received many useful gifts in
meal planning, also tea towels,
Joan thanked all the girls and a
delicious lunch was served by the
hostess assisted by Miss Beatrice Har-
grave and Mrs. Stanley Bride.,
Celebrates 96th Birthday
Mr. Win, Wade, the grand old man
of Fordwicb, celebrated his 96th birth-
day on Monday, August 10th. He
works in his carp-enter shop every day,
also walks down town for his mail and
his step is much lightor than lots of
men 25 years younger, Congratula-
tions.
Fill Community Hall
The Community Hall was filled to
capacity on Tuesday night to honour
Mr. and Mrs. George Holland, newly-
weds. The young couple were present-
ed with a yellow and grey chrome
kitchen 'outfit.
The address was read by Mr. Austin
Stinson, Geo, and Elizabeth both made
suitable replies, dancing was enjoyed
to the Gowanstown orchestra and
lunch was served.
