The Wroxeter Village Park is under-
going a trimming up thefe days in
preparation for the frolic which this
year will be sponsored jointly by
Howick Lions Club and Howick
Legion, In former years one had
been held in the spring the other in
fall, They are joining forces in order
to bring better attractions to the big
night of the year. Johnny Brent of
CKNX will be in charge of the even-
ing's programme both nights and it
promises to be full of surprises. Two
bands will be on hand and the prizes
are better than ever, half the draw to
be made each night, Both of these
groups do wonderful work in the
community and they hope for the
support of the public in this special
yearly effort.

To Attend Tea
Mrs, D. 5. MacNaughton, board di-
rector for the Federated Women'a
Institutes of Ontario, has been Invited
to attend a tea given by the Salada
Tea Company, Toronto, on August
7th, at which time 60 rugs will be on
display, They are the winning rugs
from all of Ontario which have been
entered in the contest sponsored by
the F,W.I,O. The tea company pro-
vide the prizes, the first of which is
$100.00. The rugs are all original de-
signs and the work done by groups
of W. I. members. Three winning en-
trip were made from this district,
East Huron, North Bruce and East
Bruce.
Wright Family Gather
The Wright family numbering
forty had a happy get-to-gether on
Sunday when they gathered at Park
View gardens Listowel, The gather-
ing was held in honour of Mrs. Rich-
ard Bennett, of Conquest, Saskatche-
wan, who left for home on Monday.
Mrs, Bennett left Howick with her
husband over fifty years ago. She
was the former Rebecca Wright,
sister of Mrs. Wm. Finlay, Listowel,
Frank of Howick and the late Sandy
Wright of Wroxeter. Some of those
present at the family re-union were
Mr. Frank Green, Mr. and Mrs. Al-
lister Green and Lynda, of Wingham;
Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Bender and
family, Mount Forest; Arthur Green,
Hamilton; Mr. and Mrs. George Har-
ris and sons; Mr. and Mrs. Les. Doug-
las and Ann; Mr. and Mrs. William
Wright, Wroxeter; Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Lowe and daughters Heather and
Bonny of Parkway; Mrs. Alex
Wright, of Brussels and the Simp-
son families of Molesivorth.

Dr. R. B. and Mrs. Palmer and
children, Wingham, spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. George Gibson,
Wroxeter South.
This district suffered some hail
damage to its gardens on Tuesday
afternoon. Hail stones were as large
as marbles and laid on the ground
some minutes before melting, A very
heavy rain followed which delayed
haying operations.
Mrs. Walter Smilie accompanied
her brother, Mr. Merwyn Eckmire, to
Ethel on Sunday where they attend-
ed the Eckmire family re-union.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Reid, Toronto,
spent the week-end with Mr. and
Mrs. Lyle Brothers. Mrs. Brothers,
with her daughters and Mr. and Mrs.
Reid are spending two weeks at Am-
berley Beach. Mr. Brothers will join
the party next week.
John MacNaughton accompanied
Robert Connell and William Camp-
bell, Fordwich, to Toronto on Mon-
day.
Messrs. Andy Gibson, Harvey Mc-
Michael, Phil Durst and Tom Burke,
all officers and members of Forest
Lodge, A, F. & , A. M., attended Grand
Lodge, in Toronto on Wednesday,
when Archie 1110QUigan, of Palmer-
ston, was electad District Deputy
Grand Master for North Iltireri,
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Doig visited their
daughter in Kitchener, Sunday. Eve-
lyn is recovering from a recent opera-
tion, but will be in the hospital for
some time yet.
Mr. Ken Webster, local station
agent, is a patient in Wingham Gen-
eral Hospital. His many friends wish
for him a speedy recovery.
Sunday visitors with Mrs. D. S. Mac-
Naughton were Mr. and Mrs. William
Roberts, Listowel, Mr. and Mrs. Mac
Hague and two sons, also Miss Marie
Fishback, of Woodstock. Those who
remember Mr. Hague when he was
employed in this district, will be inter-
ested to know, that some months ago
he was the winner of $1,000 in a
draw sponsored by The Kinsmen Club
of that city.
Mr. George Lackie recently visited
friends in London.
Seaforth, op Tuesday afternoon, Mem-
bers of the Women's Missionary 5oc-
letY, leaders of the Mission Band and
ladies of the choir were their guests,
Two holidays will be pbserved dur-
ing the month of August In the United
Church, August 2nd and 16th. There
will be service on the 9th and 21st.
On Sunday, August 9th, Mr. Cunning-
ham, of Listowel, will have charge.
Rev, E. W. Todd expects to have re-
turned from his holidays for the last
Sunday in the month,
Mrs. W, G. Gibson has returned to
her home, after spending a month
with friends in Walton,
BLUEVALE
Dies In Wingham
Mr. John Strachan of Grey, died in
Wingham General Hospital, after some
month's illness. He was the son of the
late Mr. and Mrs, Thomas Strachan,
pioneers of Grey township.
The funeral service was held at the
family home on Tuesday afternoon,
conducted by Rev. Wm, Fulton, of
Melville Presbyterian Church, Brus-
sels, of which deceased was a member.
One sister, Miss Jessie. Strachan, on
the homestead survives, also a nephew,
Thomas Strachan.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mooney, of Tor-
onto, spent the week-end with Mr. and
Mrs. A. D. Smith.
Mr Bernard Lillow, of London, is
spending a holiday with, his mother,
Mrs, Nellie Lillow.
Miss Jessie Holmes, who has been
living at Drumbo, has returned to her
home here for the summer.
Gloria Minns, of Montreal, and
Wendy Turner, of Willowdale, have
been holidaying with their friend,
Betty Griffith, who has come from
Montreal for the summer. Mr. and
Mrs. L. Turner, of Willowdale, visited
at the Sanderson 'home on Sunday, and
Wendy returned with them. Other vis-
itors were June Turner and Mr. and
Mrs. Reg. Bevan.
A number went from this vicinity
to attend a convention of Jehovah's
Witnesses which is being held during
this week in New York city.
Misses Mary and Ruby Duff and
Mrs. M. L. Aitken visited in Listowel
on Sunday,
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Wilson and
children, of Vineland, were visitors
with their aunt, Mrs: Wm, McKinney,
on their return trip from Sauble
Beach,
Rev, and Mrs. Campbell Tavener, of
Thorndale, have gone to Holmesville
after visiting here for a few weeks.
Mr. Tavener, who retired from the
United Church ministry in June, has
consented to take charge of Glen
Allan and Hollers United churches for
the balance of the church year, be-
ginning October first.
Mr. Dougal Strachan, Mrs. Andrew
Lamont and Mrs. P. S. McEwen at-
tended the funeral of their cousin, Mr.
John Strachan, at Brussels on Tues-
day.
Mr. J. H. Cross of Hanover has
been visiting at the home of Mrs. Jos.
Curtis.
Misses Mary and Ruby Duff and Mr.
C. H. Hoffman were in London last
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Perdue, of Wol-
seley, Sask., visited their cousins, Mr.
Henry Mathers and sisters of Blue-
vale. They were accompanied by her
sister, Miss Willa Patterson of Detroit,
Mich.

Mr, John Strachan, a lifelong resi-
dent of this community passed away
in Wingham General Hospital, on Sat-urday. He had been In failing health
for some Weeks,
Miss Marie Wright, Wingham, is
holidaying at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wright.
Miss Joanne Vanstone and Master
Bradley Vanstone, of Benmiller, visit-
ed the past week with Mr. and Mrs.
Ken Morris.
Mr, and Mrs. Ronald Mulligan ac-
companied by Mrs. Lincoln Martin are
spending a few days in New York.
Miss Janie Day, of Wingham, is a
visitor at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Will King.
Mrs. Rae Darby, of Toronto, also
Misses Nellie and Winnifred and Mr.
Oliver Doighty and an aunt, Mrs.
Forgham, are visiting her sister, Mrs.
David McLennan.

Mission Band Meets
The members of the Mission Band
met on Sunday afternoon in the
church school room with a good at-
tendance. The meeting opened by
repeating the "Members' purpose" in
unison. The theme of the meeting
was" A Christian serves only Jesus."
The Scripture reading was from
Psalm 117, and was read by Ronald
Snell. Prayer was by Mrs. Norman
McDowell and mission band hymn by
Betty Blair, The study book was
given by Mrs. Hugh Blair and Read-
ing by John McDowell. The story
was told by Mrs. N. McDowell, The
meeting was dismissed with prayer
by Mrs. Blair,

children visited on Sunday with Mrs.

Mr. Gordon McDowell accompanied
Mr. and Mrs. Elwin Taylor, Ed and
Norma, of Brussels, to Balm Beach
on Sunday when they visited with Mr.

summer cottage.

for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Walden.

I spent a few days last week at the
home of Mr. and Mrs, Harvey Mc-
Dowell.
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Oesch, of
Varna and Miss Ruth'Ann Flaxberd,
of Zurich, visited on Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Robt. Bell. Master Billy
Bell returned with them for two
weeks' visit.

W.I. August Meeting
The August meeting of the Wo-
men's Institute will be held in the
Masonic club rooms on Wednesday
5th at 2.30 p.m. Motto—"Our Empire
moves forward on the feet of its
children". Mrs. Ken Webster will
discuss the value of vaccination and
inoculation. Mrs. Jim Doig will give
current events. There will be a dis-
cussion of health—"Eating to Re-
duce". Roll call—A national holiday
and its significance.
Summer Camp Planned
In an effort to bring a happy holi-
day to the boys and girls of this
community in co-operation with Lis-
towel Recreational Council and Ro-
tary Club, Howick Lions Club will be
co-sponsors of a summer camp. Ken
Edgar will be a councillor and three
girls, Fern Cooke, Betty Newton and
Shirley Timm have been appointed
leaders. Already' fifteen boys and the
same number of girls have registered
with the councillor, who would be

Mr. and Mrs. Win. Lowe and two
daughters, of Barkway, spent the
week-end with relatives here. Mrs.
Lowe was the former Trene Wright.
Mrs. G. A. Wearring entertained on
Saturday at her home, when a trous-
seau tea was held in honour of her
daughter, Miss Agnes Wearring, whose
marriage to David Livingstone, of Lis-
tgwel, takes place shortly.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence White, Tor-
onto, spent the week-end at their sum-
mer home here.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gallaher left
on Wednesday to spend a few days in
New York with the latter's brother,
Dr. Albert Hetherington.
Mr. and Mrs. John Lane, and sons,
J. G, and Andy, visited on Sunday with
Mrs. Lane's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R.
C. Armstrong, Teeswater district,
On Friday evening last the cast of
Raggedy Nan, the three-act comedy,
which has met with such success was
presented at Grand Valley, following
a garden party. This is the 15th pre-
sentation of this play and everywhere
favourable comment is heard. Mrs.
William Wright assisted by Mrs. Wm. low
Hart coached. These taking part were
Betty Newton as Raggedy Nan, Mrs.
Harold Durst, Miss Gilberta Howes,
Mrs. Les. Douglas,Mrs, John Lane,
Ronald McMichael, Wm. Hart, Pete
Dobson, David Draper and Lloyd
Townsend,
Miss Anna Hupfer has returned
home from Wingham General Hospi-
tal, where she spent the past two
weeks, She is much improved in
health.
Mr. Whiting of Alliston, is reliev-
ing at the C. P. R, station during the
illness of the agent, Mr. Ken Webster,
Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Gibson spent
Sunday with Mr, and Mrs. Harold
Norman, of Kincardine
Mrs. Wes Heimpel has returned ,
home from Wingham General Hospi-
tal following an operation. Her many
friends hope she will soon enjoy good
health.
Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Rob-
ert McMichael, whose slater, Mrs. John
Robinson, of Gorrie, died on Friday.
Mrs. Robinson was the former Ella
Jane Strong, of Fordwich. She is
survived by two sons, Harold and
Lorne.
Mrs. Gerry Gibson and family have
returned from a two week's holiday
at Grand Bend,
