Bold Venture
We will budget for Government's legitimate needs ...
we will stop budgeting for bloated surpluses which—
in three years—took from the people's pockets the
staggering sum of $1,618,000,000 more than the
Government needed.
We will end the shocking conditions in our Defence
Department which the Government's own investigator,
(Col. G. S. Currie) described as: "A general breakdown
in the system of administration, supervision and
accounting ... Accounting records in a chaotic con-
dition and of little use in determining the nature and
extent of irregularities ... Waste and inefficiency far
more costly in loss than that covered -by actual
dishonesty".

Honored by Nurses
Miss M. E. Adams, of Wingham, was
guest of honour at a lov Ply party on
Tuesday afternoon, July 14th, at Mr.
and Mrs. Howard Maehan's cottage,
Kincardine, when Mrs. Machan receiv-
ed the nurses and friends.
The afternoon was spent in various
games and Mrs, Machan and helpers
served delicious refreshments. Letters
of good wishes were read to the bride-
to-be from Mrs, W. A. Kirkpatrick
(nee Minnie Porter) Maidstone, Sask.;
Mrs, George Love, Chatsworth; Mrs.

Wallace Pascoe, Burketon; Mrs, Chris
Cooke, LucknoW; Miss Jeanette B.
Cottle, Toronto; also Mrs. Bert Wal-
den and Mrs. Clifford ,Cottrill, who
were unable to attend.
The nurses brought a favourite re-
cipe for the bride. There was much fun
and laughter when each nurse related
a, humorous incident during her nurs-
ing career. Mrst Neil MacDonald read
the following address:
Dear Miss Adams: It is with pleas-
ure we are gathered here this after-
noon to honour you on your engage-
ment and before you leave our midst.
We have spent much time together
in the past years and have many
pleasant memories of these days. We
wish you all the blessings and happi-
ness in your future home, and would
ask you to accept this gift, with our
love.
May your coming years be Happy,
The best you have ever seen,
Is wished to you for old times' sake,
To keep our friendship green.
On behalf of 30 nurses, whose names
are on this card, Mrs. Howard Machan
presented Miss Adams with a beauti-
fully wrapped white viceroy Kenwood
blanket and an envelope containing
money.
Miss Adams thanked allfor the beau-
tiful gift, good wishes and the lovely

MARE ADOPTS
NEW BORN CALF
Reeve Ed. White of Arthur Town-
ship has a delinquent cow on his
farm. After giving birth to a calf
she, promptly abandoned the little
fellow and wandered off into the
fields.
But a faithful old mare on the farm
came to the rescue and took over the
job of foster-mother. Now the two
are inseparable. The calf is being fed
from a pail and pays no attention at
all to the runaway mother.—Mount

AN "L" OF A TRICK
Coming through Watford on Sun-
day, we spied ,the sign of a well-
known garage there, in more or less
disrepair, which brought to our mind
the query, "Who knocked the "L" out
of Wallis?--Alvinston Free Press.

We will reduce or eliminate countless hidden, indirect faxes which
grossly inflate the cost of consumer goods, add to the grievous cost of
'Wing, increase the price of homes beyond the capacity of most of our
people to pay, discourage saving and initiative.
We will reduce federal taxes by at least
$500,000,000 a year ... without reducing any
pensions, family allowances, or other social
security payments.
