Raymond Finch, 35, of Tills=burg,
farmer waiter In a London
charged with breaking and entering
and assaulting Spencer Martin of R.
R, 2, Granton, was found guilty and
fined $60 and costs and ordered not to
return to Perth County for two years
by Magistrate A. F. Cook. Finch was
alleged to have been accompanied at
the time of the assault June 11th, by
Lucien dadeau of Dashwood, who has
not yet been located by police. Martin
testifed he was pulled out of his car
and shoved into Finch's car and taken
to near Lakeside after being beaten
and left there, Other witnesses heard
in the case were P. C. John Lightfoot,
Joseph Webber, Samuel Caves and Dr.

WOODCHUCK BOMBS
EFFECTIVE ON PESTS
Every spring the woodchucks appear
from their long ,winter sleeps, thin,
hungry, in search of food and looking

found, and only 4 weeks after mating,
4 or 5 blind and naked youngsters are
born. Four more weeks pass . before
these little 'chucks leave the burrows,
to start feeding on vegetation, Now
the whole family is on the prowl for
food—and that's when spring wood-
chuck damage starts to occur.
Woodchucks, just like every other
animal, have good and bad habits.
Where the 'chuck burrows are in
woods or abandoned land, they are a
help to rabbits, skunks and other
small animals, But where the bur-

During the winter this potate, in-
seised of developing shoots like normal
types, decided to produce a new pot-
ato. The new potato grew within the
slit cut by the fork and reached the
size of a pullet's egg. In growing it
opened the slit until now the unit re-
sembles the head of an ape, devouring
an apple in one bite.—Palmerston Ob-

An enjoyable gathering was held in
the Community Park, Carrie, on
Thursday afternoon, when former
pupils of the Orangehill school, mem-
bers of the Orangehill church, and
relatives gathered to meet with Mr.
and Mrs. Wm. Ferguson, Edmonton,
spend two weeks' holidays in Sud-
bury.

The afternoon was spent in renew-
ing old friendships, taking pictures,
and social conversation, Some 55 per-
sons partook of a bounteous supper in
the Community Hall, and joined after-
wards in a sing sag. All felt it to be
a very happy occasion. Those in at-
tendance were from Sault Ste, Marie,
Milton, Harriston, Fordwich, Wing- ,
ham, Wroxeter and Gorrie.

The Newbridge W.M.S, met recent-
ly in the church for its regular
monthly meeting. Miss Gwen Wil-
liams, a missionary of Aklavile North
West Territories, was guest speaker
and gave a very inspiring talk, The
W.M.S. ladies of Mayne United
Churn were guests at the meeting.
At the close of the meeting a•
dainty lunch was served by the New-
bridge members and a social half
hour was enjoyed.
