Robertson and family last week,
—Mr. and Mrs. James Smith, Carl-
ing Terrace; have returned from a trip
to Ottawa, where they visited their
son, Mr. J. E. Smith, Mrs. Smith,
Cathy and Jimmy, They also visited
in Toronto with their daughter, Mrs,
H, J. Fensham, Mr, Fensham and
Linda, who accompanied them home
for the week-end.

Mrs Mentie DuVal spent last week
in Toronto attending the Canadian
Author's Convention at Hart House.
On the opening evening the guest of
honour, Miss Mazo de la Roche, de-
livered the address of welcome and
Mrs. DuVal's new art song was play-

NETHERY RE-UNION
HEM IN LUDNOW
The eighth annual re-union of
the Nethery families was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. William Doug-
las in Lucknow, on Saturday, July 4,
with about 100 members present.
A social *time was enjoyed, Of
special interest was the album of
pictures of the ancestors which was
prepared by Mr. Albert Nethery of
Hamilton. During the afternoon
races and contests were held. Supper
was served in Lucknow Community
Centre and was followed by a short
business period, conducted by the
president, Mr. Abner Nethery, of
Wingham. The officers elected for
the 1954 re-union were: Mr. Alex
Nethery, president, and Mr. Clare
Van Camp, sec.-treas.
A moment of silence was observed
in memory of three members who
passed away during the year, Mr.
John Armstrong, Miss Margaret Ken-
nedy and Mrs. John Van Camp arid
was followed by "The Lord's Prayer"
which Was sung by Mrs. C. H. Wade,
Mr. D. A. MacLennan, of Lochalsh,
played several selections on the bag-
pipes which were very much enjoyed.
Mr. Percy Barker, of Goderich,
presented each family with a box of
salt with compliments of the Gode-
rich Salt Works, where he is em-
ployed,

Quedoc, has left for his duties, after
spending the past week at his home.

grave.
—Mr. and Mrs, John 111cPhall and
daughter, of Niagara Falls, N. Y.,.
were- week-end visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Michael McPhail.
--Mr. and Mrs, Harry Newbery and
Miss Kitty Newbery, of Toronto, were
week-end visitors with Mr, and Mrs.
Miles Overend.
—Frank Eidt, former member of the
staff of station CKNX, left Sunday for
his new job at Oshawa. Mrs. Eidt and
family will stay on in Wingham until
suitable accommodation is found.
—Mr. Bill Conron returned home
from Westminster Hospital on Mon-
day, after having undergone treat-
ments on his leg there for the past
three weeks,
—1Vir. and Mrs. George Beattie have
returned from a month's visit with
relatives in Montreal and the States.
Mrs. Beattie's sister returned with
them for a visit.

beyell are pleased to see them back
in town again, after An absence of
six years, 'during which time Mr. Dey-
ell was Chief of Police in Southamp-

Mr. and Mrs. Horace Aitchison, and
granddaughter, Judy Aitchison, of
Kingston, Mr. and Mrs, Douglas Ait-
chison, Larry and Linda, spent July
1st., in Waterloo, where they attended
the Aitchison reunion.
—Mrs. Jack Gillespie and family are
spending their summer vacation at
Musselman's Lake, northeast of Tor-
onto. Mr. Gillespie is working on con-
struction work near the lake for the
summer months.
—Mr, and Mrs. Grose and daughter,
Debbie, spent a few days in Oshawa,
and visited . with friends and Mrs.
Grose's parents, whose mother has
been ill.
—Mr. and Mrs. Neil Williamson and
family, of Saut Ste. Marie, Ont., visit-
ed the past week with Miss Agnes
Williamson. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Wil-
liamson, of Toronto, visited here over
the week-end at the same home.
—Visitors last week with Mr. and
Mrs. N. T. McLaughlin were: Mrs.
Arthur McLaughlin, of Larder Lake,
Miss Meta McLaughlin and Miss Nell
Hutchison, of Toronto, Mr. Muir Mc-

—Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Rowan and
son, Martin, of Ayton, Raymond and
Joseph Ste. Marie, of Kitchener, Anth-

spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Jas. Ste. Marie, Victoria Street.
Friends and neighbours gathered et
the Royal T. on Thursday evening for
a party for the newlyweds, Mr. and
Mrs. Ross Gray. The young couple
were presented with a substantial :elm
of money by Lloyd Robertson, and the
address was read by Marlene Rettin-
ger, The evening was spent in danc-
ig to Tiffin's orchestra and lunch was
served.
—Mr, and Mrs. Elgin Currie, of Tor.a
onto, who have been touring through
the United States and Canada since
the first of May, arrived home on Fri-
day last and have been visiting at the
home of her father, Mr. Jas. Isard,
Wingham, who took a severe stroke in
Wingham Hospital last week, They
visited with his sister, Miss Olive
Currie in San Francisco, and with
relatives at Vancouver, B. C., and at
Calgary with his sister, Mts. John
Aitken and Mr. Aitken at Moose jaw.
Mr. and Mrs. Aitken accompanied them
home and are visiting at the home of
her brother, Mr. Jas, if. Currie of E.
Wawanosh and with his relatives at
Teeewater and in Cuiross.

-Renewed the lease of the Depart-
ment of National Defence on the old
fire hall at $20 a month for a peril)
of five years.
—Turned over a grant of $335.14 re-
ceived from the government for re-
creational purposes to the recreational
council.
—Turned over $80 from the Bridge
Club, representing rent for the fire
ball for one year, to the firemen.
—Agreed to think over during the
summer months the fact that next
year is the 75th anniversary of the
incorporation of Wingbam as a town.
—Agreed to meet with Turnberry
council to make some sort of arrange-
ment regarding the paving of the
cemetery road,
—Decided to ,investigate the pur-
chase of a street sweeper.
—Decided to hire another man for
the street department.
—Had a new fan and air Condition-
ing system installed in the town hall,
auditorium.
—Decided that the town hall care-
taker should be responsible for turn-
ing the switch on and off for the neve
air conditioning system.
—Agreed to let J. P. Alexander have
the use of the town barn on a temp-
orary basis in an effort to get com-
munity sales started,
—Approved a by-law restricting the
running at large of doge during the
summer months.
—Approved a by-law requiring all
salvage yards within the town area
to procure a license.
—Turned down a by-law proposed by
the Huron County Health Unit requir-
ing that drains and sewers be inspect-.
ed by a Huron County Health U.
inspector.
—Heard a sales talk on parking-
meters.

United Church
Welcomes Minister
Sunday, July 5th was a day toward
which the people of Wingham United
Church had been looking with expec-
tation for several months. On that
day Rev. D. J. MacRae, B.A., B.D„
was in charge of the services of wor-
ship for the first time.
At the morning service Mr. MacRae
presented a challenging call to his
congregation in his sermon "The
Sign of the Cross". His evening theme
was "The Church of the Future".
The recently organized Youth Choir
also made its first appearance at a
regular service, singing as its anthem
"Fairest Lord Jesus". The Adult
Chdir rendered at the morning ser-
vice "The Magnificat" (Neil Camp-
bell) and as an evening anthem
"Lead me Lord".
It was announced that the sacra-
merit of the Lord's Supper would be
administered at the morning servite
on July 12th.
Passes in Newmarket
Mrs, Bessie Holbrook Murdison,
wife of Andrew Murdison, and dau-
ghter of the late Mrs, Lucy Mersalet
Of Witighani, passed away at her hOme
in NeWniarket on Saturday, June 27.

Local School Wins Prize
We offer congratulations to the
pupils of 5. 5. No..9, Carrick (Inglis'
School) .arid their teacher, Miss Jac-
queline Gilmer, for winning $e5.00 in
books for the school by answering
a questionairre on re-forestation in
competition with the other schools of
the district.
Mr. J. P. Johnston, of Walkerton,
and Mr, Jackson visited the different
schools and gave each child a paper
With questions about reforestation,
then they checked the answers and
Inglis' school had the points which
won the prize.
Rev. H. T. West preached a very
challenging and thoughtful sermon in
the United Church on Sunday, he
based his remarks on Acts 10, the
29th verse, "Therefore came I Unto
You without gainsaying, as soon as I
was sent for: I ask therefore for what
intent ye have sent for me?" The
choir sang a number entitled, "Near
to the Heart of God,"
Induct New Minister
A goodly number from Belmore and
MacIntosh were present on Friday
night at the induction service for Rev.
H. T. West at the Mildmay United
Church, Rev, Mr. Sutherland of Armo,
addressed the minister and the people.
Rev, Mr. Summerell of Cargill, preach-
ed the sermon. The Mildmay choir
sang "A Song of Peace and Hope,"
Lunch was served by the Mildmay lad-
ies and an opportunity given Me. and
Mrs. West to meet the people of the
three congregations.

Mr, and Mrs. Wesley Haines, 'of
Wingham, spent Friday with Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Vogan.
Miss Joyce Darling, RN., returned
to London 'on Saturday after spending
a month's vacation with het parents,
Mr, and Mrs. A, J. Darling. She and,
her friend, Miss Veda Elwood, of Lon-
don, left on Saturday night for New
Westminster, B.C., where they have.
secured positions in a hospital there.
They planned to attend the Calgary
Stampede. en route,
Mr, and Mrs. Gordon Grant have ta-
ken their eon, Robert, to the K-W
Hospital at Kitchener for further
treatment. The whole community
sympathizes with them in the long and
pitiful illness of the little fellow and
sincerely hope that some means may
be found of restoring him to his for-
mer happy, healthy self again.
Mr. Bruce Vogan spent the week-
end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Vogan. They returned to To-
ronto with him and left on Tuesday
morning from Melton airport by plane,
to spend a couple of weeks with their
eon, Harry, and his family at Fredric-
ton, N.B.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Zinn and Caro-
lyn, and Mrs. Ervin Zinn, of Dungan-
non, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer
Zinn and family on Sunday.
Rev. Brooks, United Church minister
of Bluevale, had charge of the ser-
vice in 'the Presbyterian Church on
Sunday afternoon, in the absence of
Rev, M. Bailie, who is on holidays.
The male quartet sang a special num-
ber.
Mr. and Mrs, Toni Abraham and
Mil. and Mrs. Arnold Halliday are on a
motor trip to Kirkland Lake by way
of Manitoulin Island. Mr. W. J. Abra-
ham will return home with them.
Mr, and Mrs. Arthur Fitch, Mr. and
Mrs. Alvin Fitch and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Fitch and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Lyle Fitch and daughter, Mrs.
Ivan Haskins and daughters, attended
the Higgins reunion in Seaforth on
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Abraham, also
Jimmy and Jerry Kotras, are spend-
ing a couple of weeks with Mr. and
Mrs. Thos. Abraham.
Visitors with Mr. and Mrs, Thos,
Abraham on Dominion Day were Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Corrigan, Linda and
Ruth, of Barrie, also Mr. and Mrs.
