branch for their kind hospitality. Mol-
esworth branch invited the district for
next year and Gorrie will entertain
the fall conference at which all mem-
bers in the County of Huron will Con-
vene. Th.- meeting closed with the
singing of The Queen.

The South Friendship group of the
United Church W. A., catered for a
father and son Coronation banquet in
the United Church Sunday School
rooms on Thursday evening with ap-
proximately 50 fathers had their sons
as guests,
The Coronation scheme was carried
out in the Coronation colours, purple
and gold.
Then Rev. 3. W. V. Buchanan was
master of ceremonies and proposed
the toast to the Queen, also to the
sons. Douglas Whitfield replied. Jack
Edgar proposed a toast to the fathers,
to which Harold Hyndman replied,
The Tyro boys presented a variety
program of musical numbers and
skits, A film was shown "The Ro-
mance of the Alaska Highway." Mr.
Jas. Stephenson, of Montreal, a 90
year-old guest at the parsonage, con-
tributed a number of oldtime songs
unaccompanied.
Mr. Leonard Ruttan thanked the
ladies and Mrs. Allan Hyndman, presi-
dent of the group replied.
Community Club Elects Officers
The Gorrie Community Club met on
Monday evening, May 25th, in the hall.
Mr. Cloyne Michel, vice-pres., was in
the chair. The following officers were

It was decided at the meeting to
have a community picnic on June 17th,
in the park.
Warren Dane
Private funeral services were held
on Monday at the family residence, by
W. G. V. Buchanan, for Warren Rob-
ert Dane, who died suddenly in Wing-
ham General Hospital on Saturday.
He was the infant son of Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Dane, and is survived by his
parents, one brother and one sister,
and his grandfather, G. A. Dane,
Interment was made in Gorrie ceme-
tery.
Anglican Church News
The order of Divine service for use
in the Church of England preceding
her Majesty's Coronation was used in
St. Stephen's Church at the Sunday
evening service with the rector, Rev.
D. H. T. Fuller in charge. On Tuesday
morning Coronation Day there was a
service of Holy Communion.
Women's Auxiliary
The W. A. will meet at 2.30 p.m. on
Thursday, June 4th, at the home of
Mrs. Ted Newton. Roll call " A Scrip-
ture verse on The Holy, Spirit."
Women's Institute
The June meeting will be held on
Tuesday, June, 9th, at 2.30 p.m. at the
home of Mrs, W. C. King. Grandmoth-
ers of the Community will be guests.

The June meeting of the Howick
Jr. Farmers and Jr. Institute will be
held one week later than the usual

used clothing will be packed at this
meeting, Donations gratefully accept-

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Underwood and
Brenda, of Palmerston, spent Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs.-Earl Underwood.
The Rev. P. J. Lambert and son
Donald of Maple, were week-end
guests at the parsonage. Mr. Lam-
bert was guest speaker at the Pres-
byterian Church in Wingham on
Sunday.
Mrs. C. D. Walmsley, Barbara and
Ronnie, spent the week-end with Mr.
Walmsley in Simcoe.
Mr. and Mrs, Wm, Brycka, of Dau-
phin, Man., visited on Monday and
Tuesday of last week with relatives
here returning with Mr, and Mrs.
Harry Gamble, also of Dauphin, who
spent several days with relatives
here.
Mr. and Mrs, .as. Easton, of To-
ronto, spent Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Glad. Edgar,
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Wheeler, of
Brussels, were guests on Sunday of
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Wade,
Mrs. Jack Musgrove who under-
went an operation in the Listowel
Hospital last Wednesday is making a
good recovery.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Miller, Detroit,
were week-end guests at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Archie. Miller.
Mr.'and Mrs. Geo. Beattie, who have
leased Mrs. John Hyndman's resi-
dence, moved here last week from
Wingham. Mr. Beattie has been
manager of the Dominion Bank here
since February but was unable to
secure a home to rent previously.
Mr. and Mrs. Eliot Cranch, of Ro-
chester, N.Y., spent a few days with
Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Dane.
Dr. 0, H. Osterhout, Mr. and Mrs,
Clark Wilson, Detroit; Mr. and Mrs,
L. A. Howard, of Chatham; Mr. and
Mrs. John Kaine and Keith, of Brook-
lyn, were week-end guests of Mrs.
Pearl Kaine.
Mrs. J, H. Campbell and Susan, of
London, are guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry King. Mrs. Campbell is hav-
ing a sale on Saturday of her house-
hold furniture.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Schwandt, of
Nottawa, visited with Mr. and Mrs.
August Keil on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Greenwood, Mr.
and Mrs. Percy Greenwood and son
John and Mrs. Howard Ritchie, all of
Durham, were Sunday guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Glad Edgar and Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Edgar.
Mr. Wesley Finlay of Berkeley, Cal.,
is visiting with relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hockridge
visited the Rev. G. D. and Mrs. Vogan
at La Salle for a couple of days last
week.
Mr. Edgar Shepherd, of St, Cathar-
ines, a nephew of Miss Alice Edgar,
St. Catharines, is in London for the
Coronation. He will visit relatives in
England, and tour Paris, Rome, Swit-
zerland and Germany. He is making
the trip by air. Mr. Shepherd has
been a freqUent visitor to Orange
Hill.
Sixteen members of the Gorrie Wo-
men's Institute and two members of
the Jr. Institute attended the annual
meeting of the East Huron district
W. I. in Ethel on Friday,
Condition of Mr. Sanford Zimmer-
man, who has been a patient in the
Wingham Hospital has been much
more serious for the past week. Mrs.
Geo. Keil, who has been ill for some
time at the home of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Geo. Murray, Clifford, is
also in a more serious condition.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chapman, and
daughter Jean, Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Teeswither and little girl, all of
Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wallace
from near Palmerston were Sunday
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Chap-
man.
A 'number from here attended the
Legion Drumhead service in. Ford-
wich on Sunday afternoon.
Miss Pauline Heinmiller, Reg. N., of
Toronto, spent a few days with Mr.
and Mrs. Walter King. Pauline is
bowling Tuesday for Bermuda where
she has accepted a position. Sunday
guests 'at the same home were Miss
Christie Woodger, Gerald Miller and
John Kneale, of Toronto, Mr. and
Mrs. Sandy Gillen, Harriston.
On Sunday, June 7th at 11 ,a.m. the
Rev. Philip Smith, of Moorefield,
will be guest speaker at the United
Church Sunday School Anniversary.
Miss Patsy Drohn, violinist of Moore-
field, will play.
Eighty-two delegates registered
when East Huron Women's Institute
held their district annual meeting on
Friday at Ethel, Representatives were
present from Fordwich, Gorrie, Lake-
let, Molesworth, Moncrief, Cranbrook,
Bluevale, Majestic (Brussels), Wrox-
der and Ethel, also the Howick Junior
Institute,
President Mrs. Wm. McCann presid-
ed and Mrs. Crosby Sothern, of Ford-
wich, read the minutes, The United
Church, where the meeting was held,
was attractively decorated with an
artistic arrangement of flowers in the
blue and gold Institute colors. The
same color scheme with a coronation
touch was used on the dinner table
in the town hall where the hostess
Branch served a delicious meal.
From the Department institute
branch and home economics service
came 'Miss Elaine Found. She traced
the history of the W. I. through the
past fifty years especially the service
given by the department since 1902
when the Women's Institute received
governmeht recognition, and explained
the present extension service and its
value to the W. I, members,
Mrs. D. S. MacNaughton, board dir-
ector of the Federated Women's In-
stitutes of Ontario gave a report of
the recent board meeting at Guelph
and told of plans for the coming A.C.
AV. W. also resolutions from this
Guelph area and what had been ac-
complished through them. The speaker
announced the winners in the Tweeds-
muir History contests for Ontario as
follows: 1. Glen Morris, Brant N.; 2.
Richview, York East; 3. Blue Lake
and Auburn, Brant N. and Grace Pat-
terson, Oxford North (tied). Essay
winners were: Mrs. D. Cowan, Galt;
Mrs. Bethune, Hamilton and Mrs. Cur-
ter, Chalk River. The penny round-
up which was made for the Canadian
Mental HealthAssociation so far has
contributed $5,700,33 with 330 branches
to hear from, The 'director reported
as of March 1st, there were 1503 bran-
ches in Ontario, an all time high, with
35 new institutes organized and 12 dis-
ltnded. Total membersfflp is 45,457.
Excellent reports were given by the
standing committee conveners. Miss
Found stated 100% reporting, the first
district she had visited with such an
achievement.
Mrs. Norman Wade and Mrs. Krau-
ter gave reports of the recent officer's
conference. Mrs. Leslie Lake led in a
sing song. Fordwich group entertained
with an amusing skit. The guests were
welcomed by Mrs. De Doelder, of
Ethel, and Mrs. Emmerson Ferguson,
of Lakelet, replied on behalf of the
visiting branbhes. Mrs. McCann, retir-
ing president, spoke words of apprec-
iation to all for their co-operation
during her term of office. Members
of Lakelet W. I. organized in Novem-
ber were asked to stand and were
heartily welcomed into the district.
Fordwich won the ten dollar prize for
the hooked rug given by the Salads,
Tea Co. and their rug will now go
into the Area competition. Fordwich
also won first place in the programme
contest with Bluevale second, and
Howick Juniors third place. These too
will be entered in the area competition
when the convention is hold in Guelph
in September.
Miss Found presided for the ratifica-
tion of District Directors and also the
election of officers, as follows:
