Gorrie 40.13.A. held their 20th birth-
day Vali), on Wednesday evening in
the L.O.L. Hall when about 40 ladies
sat down to a sumptuous banquet.
Members of Morning Star Lodge,
Fordwich, were guests. The hall and.
tables were lovely with a profusion of
spring flowers also red roses and
mums. There was a lovely birthday
cake.
Mrs, Lottie Thornton, W. M., was
toast mistress, Mrs. Wm. Wilson pro;
posed the toast to the Queen and Mrs.
Geo, Brown, to the L.O.B.A, to which
Mrs, N. Wade responded, A toast to
the past mistress was proposed by
Mrs, Geo. King and Mrs. S, Zimmer-
man responded. "To the Visitors" was
proposed by Mrs, T. L, McInnes and
Mrs. Gibson, IV. M, of Fordwieh Lodge
made the reply. Miss Elva Foster,
Fordwich, was soloist.
Guest speakers were; Mrs. Fleet of
the Stratford L.O,B.A, and Mrs. Walter
Hodges, nee Gertie White, a charter
member of the Gorrie lodge, now a
Member of the Stratford lodge,
Mrs. Cassie Taylor, the first Worthy
Mistress, and Mrs. Lottie Thornton,
the present W. M. were presented with
corsages. Congratulatory messages and
gifts were received from the Stratford
lodge. The guest speakers were given
cups and saucers.
Hans Rasmussen
Sincere sympathy is extended to
Mrs. Wm. Austin whose brother
Hans Frederick Rasmussen died in
Victoria Hospital, London, on Sat.,
May 10th after a short illness, in his
50th year.
He was born in New York City and
with his parents moved to Wroxeter
in 1907. He received his education at
the Wroxeter Public School and at
the Continuation School going to
London in 1925, where he was em-
ployed as an accountant.
His wife, the former Gladys Down-
ey of London, survives with a son and
two daughters, all at home.
The funeral was on Tuesday after-
noon at the A. Millard George Funer-
al Home, with the Rev. H. E. Merl-
field of St. James (Westminster)
Anglican Church in charge, Burial
was in Woodland cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs, Wm. Austin went to
London on Sunday, Mrs. Austin re-
maining until Tuesday when the
family attended the funeral service.
Woman's Association
The regular monthly meeting of the
WA. was held at the home of Mrs.
A. Taylor on Thursday, May 21st
with 17 members present. The East-
ern Willing Workers were in charge
of the devotional period and the
theme "The Christian Family" was
presented by Mrs. W. E. Whitfield.
The Scripture, Prov, 31:10-23 was read
by Mrs. Farrish and hymn 603 was
sung, This was followed by a read-
ing "The Mother's Heart" and prayer.
Mrs. Whitfield read "Prayer for Sol-
diers". The meeting was then turn-
ed over to the president for the
business.
It was decided to serve a supper to
the Cooksville choir after their con-
cert which is to be presented in the
United Church, June 12th.
Plans were made for the garden
party which is to be held June 24th.
The meeting closed by repeating
the theme prayer in unison.
Attend Achievement Day at Seaforth
The nine girls who have completed
the course sponsored by the Gorrie
Women's Institute, "The Club Girl
Entertains" and their leader, Mrs.
Glenn Johnston, were in Seaforth
Saturday for the Huron County
Achievement Day. Jean Dinsmore
and Donna Toner received county
honors, having finished two courses.
Other girls taking the course were

Evening- Service at St. Stephen's
Owing to the Legion Drumhead
Service being held next Sunday after-
noon in Fordwich the service in St,
Stephen's Church will be held at 8
P.M with the rector Rev. D. H. T,
Fuller in charge.
On Monday evening of last week
the Gorrie C,G.I,T. entertained the
Fordwich C.G,I,T, Games were en-
joyed including "As I was going to
the Coronation", "Dropping the Cloth-
espin" and a musical contest. There
were 15 Fordwieh girls present.
Lunch was served and Jean Wallace,
pres. of the St. expressed
their appreciation of the pleasant
evening enjoyed. Meeting closed with
taps.
Bride-Elect Honored
Miss Helen Strong, a bride-to-be,
has been honored on several occas-
ions. Her aunt Mrs. Wellesley Strong
entertained at a party shelf shower
and on Wednesday evening Mrs. Tom
O'Krafka was hostess at, a miscel-
laneous shower. On Friday after-
noon the Mission Band of which Miss
Strong has been one of the leaders,
and their mothers presented her with
a lovely cup and saucer at a party.
Fast Huron District Annual
The annual meeting of the East
Huron district Women's Institute will
be held at Ethel on Friday, May 29th.
Sessions commence at 10 a,m. and at
1.30 p,m.

families held a reunion on Sunday
evening at the home of Mr, and Mrs,
Earl Toner honoring their guests Mr.
and Mrs. Harry Gamble of Dauphin,
Man.
Mr. and Mrs. Ern King Jr., of
Windsor, spent from Friday to Sun-
day with the former's parents Mr.
and Mrs, Ernest King, Sr.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vogan and their
grand daughter, Sharon, and Mr. T.
Grant, Molesworth, were Sunday
guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Archie Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hastie accom-

Wingham, spent Sunday in Toronto.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gamble, of
Dauphin, Man., have been visiting

Grant Day, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edwin Day, fell at school on Friday
afternoon, breaking his arm.
Mr. Tom Edgar had excavation
made last week for an addition to
his funeral home and residence. The
addition will be 24 x 40 ft.
Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Walmsley, Bar-
bara and Ronald, spent last week-
end with relatives at Bracebridge.

with relatives here,

Blackstoek over the week-end and
attended the funeral of Mrs. Roy
Ferguson,
Miss Eleanore Edgar left on Mon-
day for Rosetown, Sask., where she
I has accepted a position on the hos-
pital staff.

Craig, visited on Friday with the
latter's Sister, Mrs. Harry Ferguson.

Rites in Waterloo
A quiet but beautiful wedding took
Place on Saturday evening, May 23rd.,
at the residence of Rev, John J. Mur-
deck, 1.75 King St., Waterloo, when
Miss Roberta Gertrude Wheeler, dau-
ghter of Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Wheeler
of Wroxeter, and Mr. Robert Wallace
Mason, son of Mr, and Mrs. John
Mason, of Belgrave, were solemnly
united in marriage.
The bride wore a medium green
gabardine suit with a corsage of pink
roses and white accessories.
Mrs. Helen Rogers, of Wingham,
was bridesmaid and was wearing a
wine and black check suit with a cor-
sage of yellow roses and white access-
ories,
Mr, Gordon Rogers, Waterloo, acted
as best man.
A delicious turkey supper was serv-
ed at the Mayfair Hotel, and the rest
of the evening was enjoyed in danc-
ing. The groom's gift to the bride was
a set of rhinestones; to the brides-
maid, a pearl necklace and to the best
man, a gold tie pin.
The young couple will reside in

bride's parents, marriage vows were
exchanged by Mary Louise Cameron,
only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ewart
Dryden Cameron, Walkerton, and

Pattison officiated,
Given in marriage by her father,
the bride was gowned in white nylon
net over satin, topped by a Chantilly
lace redingote. .A pearl-studded Juliet
cap held her fingertip veil, She car-
ried a bouqeut of white carnations and
stephanotis.
Her only attendant was Miss Mar-
garet Brown, of Hamilton, who wore
a gown of pale blue nylon net over
satin, and carried a bouquet of pastel-
toned flowers.
The groomsman was Charles Proc-
ter of Burlington.
A reception was held at the Hartley
House, Walkerton, Following a wed-
ding trip to England and Continental
Europe, the couple will reside in Burl-
