How many
Canadians keep
warm with oil?
More than 4 millions. Oil is used in the furnaces or heaters
of more than a million Canadian homes—better than one
in four.
Oil plays a large and growing part in our everyday living.
How many of these questions about it can you answer?

Far down the list a few years ago;
Canada now ranks eighth. Except
for a group of Middle East countries
—Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Saudi
Arabia—only the U.S., Venezuela
and Russia have larger reserves.
Last year 165 million barrels —
about one gallon each day far every
man, woman and child. Canada
uses twice as much oil as she did
six years ago.
Much less. The average wholesale
price of Esso gasolines across Canada
is up about one-third as much as
the average for all commodities.
The energy of the oil produced in
the western oil fields each day is
about 1 8 times that generated at
Niazara.
Taxes were $55 millions, about 21/2
times dividends to shareholders
For each dollar of income, Imperial
paid 10¢ in taxes and 40 in divi4
dends. Tax figures do not include

In spite of the heavy rain 42 wo-
men and girls attended the W.I. meet-
ing in the Community Hall on Thurs-
day evening. Eight of the girls from
the Belmore 4-T Club were present
(4-T stands for 4 townships).
After a few introductory remarks by
the leaders, Miss Mary Will and Mrs.
R, McDonald, the girls modelled their
dresses which they had made as part
of their project for the ladies to see,
telling the cost of each. They also
displayed their poster and record
books, all of which were most interest-
ing. The dresses showed a great vari-
ety of color, design and trimming, and
all are dresses that any girl can be
proud of. With a change of accessor-
ies, they are adaptable for almost any
occasion. Much credit is 'due Mrs.
Fred Doubledee for opening her home
for the girls' meetings and for super-
vising their work.
Mrs. Zinn then took charge of the
meeting, the opening ode was sung,
the Mary Stewart Collect was read in
unison. Minutes of last meeting were
read by the secretary, Mrs, Abraham,
and the following program given:-
roll call, "Where I went to public
school," motto by ,Mrs. Elmer Jeffray

"The Christ of the Andes", a true
story of how war was averted in South
America, by arbitration, and how they
melted their cannon and formed a
statue of Jesus Christ which for 50
years has., stood on the boundary of
Chile and Argentina to remind them
of the peace pact they signed,
The meeting was in charge of the
Historical Research Convener, Mrs,
Harper, and she gave the topic, It
consisted of gleanings from the Wo-
men's Institute record books of 30 and
35 years ago. It proved very interest-
ing and entertaining to recall some of
the things that were done at that
time. The W. I. had 59 members in
1920, They held a number of garden
parties to pay for the Methodist
Church' when it was purchased by
them.
Mrs. Ballagh provided two contests
which were much enjoyed.

ley, Mrs. E. Merkley, Mrs. Carl Fitch,
Mrs. Clark Renwick, Miss Frances
Inglis, Mrs. Arnold Jeffray, Mrs. R.

was held and it was decided to can-
vas for funds for the Salvation Army
again. Collectors were appointed.

May 'fith, 7th and 8th were discussed,
also for the district annual at Bervie
on May 20th.
