Just Around the Corner ,
Spring is just around the corner,
Or so the neighbours say;
It hasn't even peeked a bit,
As far as we can see.
The leaves lie sodden on the grass;
The trees are stark and bare,
The birds, they sing in muted tones,
The sun has lost its glare.
Oh, to be in England,
Now that April's here,
Or down to Kew in Mac time
Or some sweet place quite near.
Alas we have to stick it out .
'Neath skies so dark and drear,
And hang our rakes up in the shed,
Our spades against the rear.
The time goes on, but Spring is late,
No cleaning houses up to date,
No rugs to air upon the line,
No paint upon the garden gate.
