Farewell Service,
For Dr., Beecroft
keentinued from Page One)
wishes and thanice to the Winghtem
i
Curling Club, where he had been a
valued member, and who attended the
evening service in a body, occupying
all the centre pews of the church. He
remarked that it was thirteen years
to the day since he had preached his
first sermon in Winghani and said,
"Thanks for the day", which he had
spent in this community.
At the close of the service, a social
hour was spent in the school room.
Under the chairmanship of Colin Fin-
gland, a short program was presented
which included: A piano solo by Cath-
arine Keating, a vocal solo by Jack
Reavie, a duet from Mrs, George Guest
and Mrs. W. B. McCool and a reading
by Mrs. W. VanWyck,
Rev. A. Nimmo, minister of St. And-
rew's Presbyterian Church spoke
briefly, telling of the friendly relation-
ship which existed between the two
churches and sending the best wishes
of St, Andrew's congregation with Dr.
and Mrs. Beecroft to their new home.
Two presentations were then made.
G. W. Tiffin read the following ad-
dress, and, on behalf of the congre-
gation, Mrs. W. VanWyck presented
Dr. and Mrs, Beecroft with a cheque
which was to be used to purchase
something for their new house.
Rev, Dr. and Mrs. W. A. Beecroft,
Dear Friends:
We know that both of you have
been receiving farewell tokens and
messages from many sourcedi)recently.
This may detract from the newness
of our story, but, in no way, from its
warmth or sincerity.
Thirteen years in any worthwhile
cause would merit some recognition.
The term you have spent among us
has been one of such marked devotion
to the work of Christ's church, along
with leadership in worthy endeavours
in the larger community, that the
seeming obligation becomes, instead, a
high privilege.
Wingham 'United Church has pros-
pered during your pastorate. The
church debt was paid off some years
ago and the church plant is in fine
condition. The missionary givings of
the congregation, by your inspiration,
and, at your urgng, have been exceed-
ed year by year. It was good to have
your courageous leadership through
the war years when our world hung
so near to complete physical disaster.
The personal reassurance you were
able to bring to so many in their times
of trouble will be gratefully remem-
bered.
We are indebted to you, Mrs.
Beecroft, for your support of the Wo- :
