A good crowd attended the euchre
and solo party held in the Hall on
Monday night. Twenty-one tables
were played. Mrs. Robert Allen anti

the ladies in the euchre and Chas.
Lathers and Ivan Haskins for the.

Elmer Haskins were high, Mrs, Lionel
Mahood received the lucky door prize.
The evening's entertainment was in

Pupils Entertain Parents
The pelpils of S S. No, 12, Culross,
and their teacher, Miss K. McLennan,
entertained the parents at a prelim-
inary public speaking contest on Wed-
nesday, March 18, in the school, Sev-
eral contestants took part and all ac-
quitted themselves quite well and
after clue consideration it was decided
that Shirley Boyd would represent the
school at Teeswater on Monday night.
A short program was given consisting

brother, Mr. Wm. Curie and Mrs.

Mr, and Mrs. Earl McNee and fam-
ily, visited on Sunday with relatives
at the Nile.
Mr. and Mrs. Alec Marshall and Jim,
called on relatives here on Sunday,
Billy and Connie Boyd celebrated
their birthdays on Sunday and had as
their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
Wheeler and Miss Marion Brenner, of
Kitchener, Mr. and Mrs, Austin
Wheeler, Mrs, Smith and daughter,
Flora, of Monkton, Mr. Wm. Tremble
and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nickel and

The Y.P.S. of Teeswater Presbyter-
The Perin Forums, Maitland and
Chitter ,Chatter, of Morris, entertained
in the Community Hall when nine
farm forums were represented. With
Fleming Johnston as chairman, a good
program was given, beginning with a
sing song, led by Mrs, Gee, Hethering-
ton,
Instrumental numbers were: piano
duet, Elizabeth McKinney and Susan
Yeo; selections, piano aecordian, Mrs.
Donald Robertson; readings were
given by Mrs, M. Bailie, Miss Mary
Adair, Molesworth, and Mr, Clifford
Coultes, Belgrave; Vocal numbers
were as follows: Quartette "Sweet and
Low", and "Pop Goes the Weasel" by
Messrs. C. H. Hoffman, Rev, R. A.
Brook, Carl Johnston, Ross Smith;
and solos. by Mrs. Gordon Craig and
Bruce Robertson. Dance numbers
consisted of a highland Fling by
Marie and Shirley. Johnston and an
old fashioned hoe down in costume.
Accompanists were: Mrs. Oliver
Moffatt, Mrs. Carl Johnston, Mr. 0
Moffatt with violin,
Mr. Gordon Waite, secretary of the
Farm Forums of Ontario, was the
speaker, and received a rousing re-
ception. Mr. Waite is a dynamic
speaker and carried his audience with
him In his description of Frontlet
College, adult education in the north-
ern lumber, mining and railroad
camps, He gave a vivid account of the
methods used by the instructors in
teaching the French speaking and
foreign workers arithmetic and the
English language, He also dwelt on
the value of farm forums and urged
members to take an active interest, in
the discussions and keep informed on
the • activities of the Federation. The
speaker said some of the farm forums
had been "euchred" to death, to the
loss of the community.
Mr. Bill Hastings moved a hearty
vote of thanks to the speaker, Mr.

The play, "A Ready-made Family"
sponsored by the Women's Institute
was presented by Kurtzville talent, to
a well-filled hall here on St. Patrick's
night, The characters were well chos-
en and the acting was exceptionally
well done and provided two hours of
clean fun and merriment for the large
audience. Neil Eadie gave an instru-
mental and Wayne Douglas sang a
cowboy song in suitable costume be-
tween acts, These numbers were much
appreciated, Music for the dance
which followed was provided by the
"Carrick Candeies" orchestra, Pro-
ceeds from the evening netted the
Women's Institute $55.00.

On. Tuesday evening, March 17, the
Evening Auxiliary of the United
Church held its meeting at the home

The first meeting of the Fordwich
Club Girls was held at the home of
Mrs. Geo, Richards, Thursday evening
last.
Fifteen members were in attend-
ance and the election of officers was
made as follows: prea, Jean McLean;
sec., Phyllis Keith; treas,, Allison
McCann; press reporter, Joan Vittie.
Mrs. Geo. Richards, leader, gave an
interesting discussion on the after-
noon tea, formal and informal. Mrs.

wiches to be served at an afternoon
tea.
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Mrs. Geo. Richards on

Rink Wins at Wingham •
Messrs. Wm. Edgar, Stan Bride,
Wm, McElwain and Harvey McDer-
mitt were in Wingham on Wednes-
day last, taking part in the bonspiel,

Mid-Week Lenten Service
The Lenten service will be held in
Trinity Anglican Church on Wednes-
day evening at 8 o'clock. Rev. W. R.
Tristram will deliver the sermon.
Supper Well Attended
A large crowd attended the United
Church St. Patrick's supper. Receipts
amounted to approximately $170,00.

C.G.I.T. Meets
The groups met at the\homc
of Reita Harding with Joan Demer-
ling as secretary, The meeting open-
ed with the National Anthem, the
Lord's Prayer, Purpose And Answer.

Roll call was answered by 15 girls.
Further plans were made for the mo-
ther and daughter banquet. Next
meeting will be a Work Meeting, A
talk on "Photography for Fun" was

After the concert refreshments were
served, and 'a dance followed to music
provided by Tiffin's orchestra,
Mr. John Balfour
Mr. John Balfour died in Wingham
General Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Turnberry township,
the son of the late Andrew Balfour
and Margaret Casemore, He lived all,
his life on the family homestead in
Turnberry until he .retired to Bluevale
four years ago.
Surviving are three sisters: Mrs,
Reid (Kate) of Wingham, Mrs, Camp-
bell (Sarah) of Vancouver, and Mrs.
Wilson (Mary Jane) of Saskatoon.
The funeral service will be held in
Walker's Funeral Parlor, Wingham,
on Wednesday afternoon, March 25th,
with Rev, Mr. Coyle, of Wingham
Baptist Church, officiating. March
25th would have been the 80th birth-
day anniversary of the deceased.
Pallbearers will be: James Case-
more, Wm, Casemore, Milo Casemore,
George Hutchison, Wart. Faulkner and
Noble Greenaway.

Visiting with Rev. R. A, Brook and
Mrs, Brook on Sunday were: Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Brook and children, of
Oshawa; Mr, Howard Brook and Mr.
and Mrs. Thos Gaston, of Toronto,

The Triple Group of the Ladies Aid
of the Presbyterian Church met at
the home of Mrs. Don Robertson, on
March 19th, to quilt. Mrs. Saltine, pre-
sided' for the business period. The
group ,,have decided to sponsor the
play "Raggedy Nan," put on by Wrox-
eter talent, in the Community Hall.

byterian church, had charge of the
"Church of the Air", Tuesday morning.
