'met on Monday evening at the home
of Mr. J. D. Beecroft, for the last
meeting of the season, Mr. John Mc-
Gee was chairman for a short musical
program, after which Mr. McGee gave
a very interesting and inforniative ac,
count of their recent trip to Florida.
Mr, Cecil Falconer in the "Journal"
gave an interesting resume of the
benefits and pleasures of the winter
meetings, ending up with a humorous
joke on each couple.
Mrs. Jas. Falconer and Mr. Chas.
Martin held high poln's in euchre,
with Mrs. cinnamon and Mr. Ezra
pcholtz second high. In crokinole, Mrs.
IR
Dow and Donald Dow held high points
and Mrs. John McGee and George
McGee with second high, James Fal-
coner received the lucky chair prize,
Lunch was served and all enjoyed the
social time together.
Brick W.M.S. Meets
The regular monthly meeting of the
W.M.S. of Brick United Church was
held on Thursday, at the home of the
president, Mrs. Lawrence Taylor, with
20 ladies present. Mrs. McRitchie pre-
sided, Mrs. Clarence Chamney read
the Scripture lesson and Mrs. Frank
Thompson led in prayer. Mrs. George
Walker, Mrs. George Carter, Mrs. John
Currie and Mrs. Allan Pattison, each
gave a resirhe of the diffel•ent parts
of the work taken up in the Study
Book on Africa. Mrs. Gilbert Beecroft
led in prayer, Mrs. Wightman gave
a short talk, telling of the 'Sims of
the Dominion Board of the United
Church to send help to the Copper
Belt in N. Rhodesia. Mrs. Beecroft
reported that several of the supple-
mentary study books for W.M.S. work
were now in Belgrave Library. Mrs,
McRitchle led in prayer for the infs.-
slonary work and workers throughout
the land and Mrs. (Rev.) Cox pronoun-
ed the benediction.
Entertains Young People
The Young Adult Group of the
United Church entertained the young
people,,of the Presbyterian Church in
the Stiriday school room of the church
on Tuesday last. Mr. Ivan. Laidlaw'
presided for the worship service. Miss
Shirley Chapman read the Scripture
lesson and Mrs. E. H. Groskorth gave
the meditation talk. Miss Marjorie
Coultes led, in prayer and Mr. Clarence
McClenaghan read an Easter poem.
Miss Jean Gaunt played a piano solo,
playing Irish numbers, and Mrs. Wal-
ter Bell sang two Irish numbers with
accompaniment on her guitar. Rev. S.
E. Hayward closed the meeting with
prayer. Raymond and Arthur Laidlaw
had charge of the games and contest
of the recreational period. Lunch was
served and all enjoyed the social time
together:
Attend Bluevaie Rally
Nine of the Whitechurch. Farm
Forum members attended the rally in
Bluevale Memorial Ha on Friday
evening. Mr. Johnston was chairman
for the program when Mrs. Robertson
played accordian numbers, Mrs. Gor-
don Gregg and the Bluevale Male
Quartet sang. Readings were given by
Mrs. Bailie, Clifford Coaltea, Mrs.
Iohnatom, and Shirley and Marie John-
ston gave dancing numbers as did a
group of hard-time square dancers.
Reeve John Fischer, of Turnberry,
drew the attention of all to the new
picture of Queen Elizabeth which had
been presented to the Memorial Hall
on request, by John Hanna, 111.P,P.,
through the department of the Mini-
ster of Welfare,
Attend. Funeral
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tiffin, Mr. and
Mrs. George Tiffin and Mr. Orville
Tiffin left on Monday to attend the
funeral of their aunt, the late Mrs.
George Thompson, who passed away
in Toronto. Formerly Margaret Taylor,
she was, the daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. James Taylor, of Kinloss
Township., Over 35 years ago she mar-
ried Mr,. Fred Thompson and they
made their home in Toronto. Besides
her husband, she leaves one son, Ro-
bert and one daughter, Mrs. Malcom-
son, both of Toronto, Also surviving
are four grandchildren, two sisters,
Mrs. Belle Cottle, of Detroit, and Mrs
Jos, Tiffin, of Whitechurch, and two
brothers, Albert and William, of Sask-
atchewan. She passed away in a To-
ronto Hospital following a heart at-
tack. Burial was in Toronto.
Mrs. Alex King
Mr. Adam Robertson, Mr. and Mrs,
Alex Robertson and Jimmie, Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon McBurney and son and
Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Craig attended
the funeral of the former's sister-in-
law, the late Mrs. Alex King, of Brus-
sels. Formerly Miss Catherine Black;
of Morris, .her husband pre-deceased
her about seven years ago. She was in
her seventy-second year. Her married
life was spent on the ith line of Mor-
ris; She passed away after a short ill-
ness with pneumonia in the Wingham

SHOW SCALE MODEL
PROPOSED SCHOOL
Tomorrow evening Durham Public
Sehool Board will meet the architects
to study plans for the proposed new
public school, Chairman Clare Hutch-
ison will preside,
A scale model of the proposed school
has been prepared by the architects
and will be set up in the window of
Karry Kress Store this week-end,
An option has been obtained on sev-
eral acres three blocks east of Gara-
fraxa and immediately north of the
Durham Crushed Stone plant,
The scale model shows the building
facing west. Six classrooms are on
one floor.
At the north end of the building,
where there is a considerable drop in
the elevation, two classrooms are on
ground level but beneath two other
classrooms. The school has been de-
signed on two levels.
Jutting out to the west is a distinct-
ive circular room which has been de-
signed as a kindergarten class. The

meeting was closed with the benedic-
tion. The quarterly birthday tea and
social time was enjoyed by all,
Mr, Bert Currie purchased the De-
yell farm on ihe Boundary in E. Wa-
wanosh, at the sale on Thursday last.
Mr. Charlie Robinson has been
under the doctor's care during the
Week-end, suffering from pleurisy fol-
lowing flu.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm; Rintoul and fam-
ily spent Sunday with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. George Caldwell, Blyth
Mr. Kenneth Purdon, of Malton,
spent the week-end with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Purdon.
Mrs. Cecil Falconer, Mr. and Mrs.
Angus Falconer and Allan . and Mr.
and Mrs. Relison Falconer, of Wing-
ham, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Hector Purdon, of Petrolia, and also
motored to Sarnia and Port Huron.
Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Purdon, of Luck-
now, who had been visiting at Petrolia,
returned home with them,
Mr. and Mrs. John Purdon spent
Saturday in London where they visit-
ed with her sisters, Mrs. Fox and Mrs.
Mitchell,
Mr. and Mrs. Archie Watt and fam-
ily, of Toronto, spent the week-end
with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. J.
Watt.
ArMthru and Mrs. Stanley Moore, Mrs.
Arthur Moore and Mrs. Walter James
were in Orangeville on Tuesday of last
week, attending the funeral of the late
Frank Welwood, a nephew of Mrs,
Arthur Moore's, who was killed in a
traffic accident on Sunday last.
Mrs. Amos Cornelius has been a pa-
tient in Wingham General Hospital
during the past week.
Mr. and Mrs. Percy Vincent and
Miss Margaret Jackson, of Auburn,
visited on Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs.
James Falconer,
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laidlaw and
sons, spent Sunday at Clinton, at the
home of her mother, Mrs. Jos. Holmes.
Mr. Alex Campbell and Mr. Harry
Hetherington, of Morris, spent Sun-
day with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emer-
son.
Rev. R. D. A. Currie left on Monday
to attend a five-day course in Evan-
gelism and Social' Action, held in...To-
ronto for that Committee of the Pres-
byterian Church.
There is to be a business change in
the village next month. Mr. Leslie Bur-
nett, garage owner at Tralee on
Highway 86, has purchased Fred
Newman's store and gets possession
on • April 15. They will also have
charge of the public library. The
Post Office appointment is made by
the London headquarters. Mr. and
Mrs. Burnett have two children of
pre-school age. We wish them suc-
cess in their new venture.
Mr. and Mrs. William Gow of Au-
burn visited on Thursday last at the
home of his nephew, Mr. Kenneth
Zinn.
Mr. Fred Newman and Douglas,
and Craig Scott were in. London on
Friday last, where both boys had ap-
plied for the Navy. Each had passed
his preliminary tests and was sworn
in, and they will 'report ins London
in two weeks and will go tie the train-
ing school near Moncton, N.B., for
19 weeks.
A shower is being held this Wed-
nesday evening in the Memorial hall
here in honor of the coming mar-
riage of Miss Marilyn Newman.
Mr. and Mrs. James E. Currie vis-
ited with Palmerston relatives on
Sunday and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Currie and children spent Sunday'''.

school room of the church with the

chair and 19 ladies present, Mrs. Gor-
don Rintoul read the Scripture lesson
and gave the meditation talk. Mrs.
Ezra Welwood led in prayer. Mrs,
George Fisher gave the current events
from the Glad Tidings and Mrs. John
Craig led in the Glad Tidings prayer,
Mrs, Gordon McBurney led in the of-
fertory prayer. Mrs. Hugh Simpson.
had charge of the topic, the second
chapter from the study book on Afri-
ca, telling of the leadership the mis-
sionaries are giving, the people to de-
velope their dwn industries to raise
their standard of living, besides the
spiritual guidance. The Easter thank-
offering, will be held on April 8, when
Miss D. Douglas of Lucknow, returned
missionary, from Formosa, will be the
guest speaker and Langside and the
United Church W.M.S. societies will
be invited. The roll call was answered
by Bible sentences containing the
word "wife". Mrs. Newman resigned
as secretary and Mrs. Gordon McBur-
ney was appointed to take her place.
The meeting was closed by all repeat-
ing the Lord's prayer in unison.
United W.M.S. Meets
The regular meeting of the W.M.S.
of the United Church was held on
Chapman, formerly Helen Musgrove.
Mrs. Mink and Mrs, W. 3. Greer, of
'Wingham, also attended the funeral.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. 8hiell visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gaunt of
Kinloss.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnston and
family, of Parkhill, visited on Sun-
day with Lucknow relatives and with
Mr, and Mrs. Wallace Conn,
Mrs, Irene Paterson, of Toronto,
spent the week-end with her mother,
Mrs. William Taylor,
Mrs. Leslie Wightman and her sis-
ter, Miss Margaret Vipond, of At- I
wood, were at Pert Erie attending the .c;
funeral of the late Mrs. (Dr.) D.
