Senior WMC Meets
Discusses India.
The Senior Women's Mission Circle
of the Baptist, Church met at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Collar on Wed-
nesday afternoon for their regular
monthly meeting with a good attend-
ance.
A hymn was sung and the president,
Mrs. J. Falconer presided and opened
with prayer. The secretary read the
minutes of the last meeting and the
roll call was answered with a verse
of Scripture. Mrs. M. Cameron pre-
sented the treasurer's report, The of-
fering was received and donated to
Miss Laura Collar to help finance
equipment for her return to the Mis-
sion field.
Mrs. W. Harcourt read the Scripture,
Romans, chapter 12, and gave a very
nstructive message, her theme being
'Christian Life and Service:" A poem,
A Missionary's Prayer" was read by
Mrs, Coyle.
The topic was devoted to India. Mrs.
Pocock, Miss Lewis and Mrs. Stokes
Misses Joyce Jardine and Daisy
Moutlon, of London, spent the week-
! end with Mr. and Mrs. Jardine.
I Miss Isabel Eckmier, Ethel, was
a week-end guest of Miss Mary

Mrs. Della Hubbard of Wellington,
Prince Edward county, and Mrs,
Laura Edwards, of Montreal, were
cemetery. , here for the funeral of their sister,
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest King celebrat-
ed their fifty-ninth wedding anniver-
sary on Saturday, March 21st., when
they, with all the members of their
family, were entertained at a fowl
dinner at the home of their youngest
son, Harry con, 9, Howick. They were
recipients of many gifts, cards and
congratulatory messages.
Mr. and Mrs. King have been resi-
dents of Howick Township all their
lives. They were married when Mr.
King was 28 and Mrs. King, the for-
mer Rachel Clegg, was 18, They farm-
ed on con. 13„for most of 'their
married life, for the last few years
they have lived on con. 11. They enjoy
• fairly good health and carry on in
their own home, except for a few
months spent in Toronto with their
daughter in the winter. They are
members of St. Stephen's Anglican
Church, and attend regularly. Mrs.
King is also an active member of the
W. A.
They have four sons and one dau-
ghter, Wilfred, Frank and Harry, of
Garde; Mrs. Percy (Clara) Colmer,
Toronto; and Ernest, Windsor. There
are 13 grandchildren and 8 great
grandchildren,
Hockey
After a very successful hockey
season, Gorrie lost 6-2, Tuesday night
at Walkerton in a sudden death game
with Neustadt, to break the tie in the
five game series. This gives Neusadt
the W.O.A.A. group title and elimi-
nates Gorrie. A crowd of 1,391 fans
attended. Townsend and O'Krafka
scored goals for Gorrie. Lorne King
was goalie; Ron and Glenn McMic-
hael, defence; O'Krafka, centre;
Townsend and Harrison, wings; Hil-
bert, Farrish, Campbell, Lloyd, Gibson,
Brown, Heibein, Nimmo, subs.
The team is to be congratulated
on the fine showing they, have made
throughout the season.
Euchre Parties
At the L.O.B.A, euchre on Tuesday
afternoon, St. Patrick's Day, Miss
Emily Potter and Mrs. John Brown,
were the two prize winners, having
the highest scores. Dainty refresh-
ments were served.

Howick Juniors on County Executive
The annual meeting of the Huron
County Junior Farmers and Junior
Institutes, was held in Clinton on
Wednesday night. Ron McMichael was
elected president of the Huron County.
Juniors, Raymond Neill is a director,
Mary Thornton is 2nd."vice president
of the Junior Institute and Erla New-
ton is a director.
Mrs. Joshua Do▪ wes
Mrs, Joshua Howes, the former
Louise Edith Reynolds, passed away
at her home on lot 5, con, 15, Howick
Township, on Wednesday, March 17th,
1953, after ' having been confined to
bed for the past two weeks.
Deceased was born in Wallace
Township, a, daughter of the late Jos-1
eph Reynolds and Elizabeth Johnson,
on August 22nd., 1885, and moved with!
her family to Minto township, where'
she lived until her marriage to Joshua'
Andrew Howes, December 9th., 1914,1
and moved to lot 26 and 27, con. 13,1
Minto Township. In 1933 the family I
moved' to Howick where they have
since resided.
She leaves to mourn their loss, her
husband, four sons, James of Listowel;
David, of Guelph; Leslie and. Edwin,
of% Harriston; twin daughters, Edith,
at horde and Mrs. Frank (Catherine) I
David of Toronto Hospital, Weston;
seven grandchildren, one predeceased
1 her in May, 1951, and one sister, Mrs.
James lVfeEwen; of Clifford.
The funeral held from the Hardy
Funeral Home, Harriston, Thursday
afternoon, March 19th, was largely at-
tended, The service was conducted by
the Rev. R. G, Boggs, of the Gorrie
Presbyterian Church. The remains
were laid to rest in the Harriston
cemetery.
Pallbearers were:' Messrs. Melvin
Findlay, Bert Underwood, Carl Nichol,
Alex Taylor, Wm. Dane and Ernest
Wylie,
Flower bearers were: Charles Shen-
non, Harold Shannon, Chester Shan-
non, Leonard Whetham, Leonard
Preiss and Chester Lyons.
"The Club Girl Entertains"
Ten girls were in attendance for the
first meeting of the Girls' Club held
at the home of Mrs. Glenn Johnston,
en Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Johnston'
is the leader for the project, "The Club
Girl Entertains" sponsored by the
Gorrie Women's Institute. Jean Dins-
more was appointed ',president and
Donna Toner, secretary-treasurer.

James Magoffin
Mr. James Alexander Magof fin pass-
ed away at his home in Fordwich, on
!Sunday, March 15th, after a lingering
illness. He was the son of the late
Mr. and ,Mrs, Thos, Magoffin and was
in his 73rd. year. He was horn in Wal-
lace Township and had farmed there
until moving to Fordwich 27 years
ago, where they have lived with the
exception of four years In Gorrie,
Left to mourn his loss are his Wife,
the former Margaret Campbell, one
son, Campbell of Lucan; one daughter,
Mrs. Atcheson (Ruby) Wallace, con.,
9, Howick; six grandchildren, one
brother, Robert, and one sister, Jessie,
both of Marydale, Man. A sister, Mrs.
(Jean) Brooks, predeceased him in
1951.
The funeral service was held at the
T. V. Edgar Funeral Home, on Wed-
nesday conducted by Rey. W. ft, Tris-
tram, of the Fordwich United Church,
of which the deceased was a member,
assisted by the Rev, J. R. Boggs. Miss
Minnie Mcllwaine sang "Beyond the
Sunset."
Pallbears were Lenwood Edgar, Nel-
son Dow, Stewart Cochrane, Murray
McCreary, David Menzies and B. Bin-
ning.
Flower bearers were Ed. Stewart,
Oliver McCreery, Donald Dow, Arn-
old Doig, Selby Foster and Wellington
Hargrave.
Interment was in the Fordwich
Rare Birth
A rare phenomenal birth to a Lei-
cester Southdown ewe occurred at
the farm of Ernest Harris, B line,
Howick township, on Fri., March
20th. • The ewe gave birth to her
first lamb on March 9th and almost
disowned it. Mr. -Harris had consid-
erable trouble to get her to mother it.
A second lamb was born 11 days
later March 20. Both lambs are al-
most identical in appearance and
their mother is equally fond of both
members of her family.

Miss Marlene • Feigel underwent
an appendectomy in the Wingham
Hospital last Wednesday. She is
making a good recovery and is ex-
pected home soon. . .
Mrs. Bertha Plant is visiting
friends in St. Marys for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Haney, Wing-
ham, Mrs. Clara Scott and Mr. Spence
Scott, Morris, were among those
each read articles pertaining to thus

Howick Couple Celebrate
Fifty-Ninth Anniversary
Mrs. Nelson Steurnol, en Wednesday.
Mrs. Hubbard was accompanied . by
her two daughters and a son-in-law
also from Wellington.
Mr. and Mrs: Carl Harris of Colon-
say, Sask., are spending a few weeks
with relatives in the Gorrie and Ford-
wich communities. Mrs. Harris'
father, Mr. Wm. Sotheran, underwent
an operation in Victoria, HospitAl,
London last week. Mr. and Mrs.
Harris made the trip by plane.
Miss P. Everleigh, of Sarnia, was a
week-end guest at the rectory.
Sergeant L. E. Kinley was a guest
last week at the Nash home. Mrs.
Kinley, the former Mary Ritchie and
little daughter Ann, who have been
visiting here for several weeks re-
turned with him an Friday to their
home in Ottawa.
Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Easton, of To- '
ronto were week-end guests of Mr.
and Mrs. Glad, Edgar.
