The sympathy of the community is
extended to Mr, and Mrs, Ronald Mul-
ligan owing to the sudden death of
her father, Mr, Thomas Clarke, who
passed away Thursday evening it Tiv-
erton, as the result of an accident
in a gravel pit.
Mrs, George Hislop is in Kitchener
Hospital, having undergone an oper-
ation.
A ereldnole party was enjoyed at S.
S. No, 4, Grey, on Monday evening.
The proceeds were in aid of the over-
seas flood victims,

Women's Institute Makes
Donations to Charities
Hall, sponsored ny the 'ward.
Mrs. Roy Simmons won first prize for
high score for ladies, Mrs. Jack
Brown won second prize. Mr. Dick
Alcireclit and David Aldrecht won
honours for the men and Mr. Robert
Connell, the lucky door prize.
Mr. and Mrs, Ken Hill, Kathryn.
and Judy, of Allandale, wore week-end
giiest,s with Mr, and Mrs. Wes

The second Lenten service was held
in the Anglican Church on WedneAiday
evening with a good attendance. This
week it will be in the United Church,
Rev. D, Fuller will deliver the sermcn,
everyone is invited.
The W,M.S. of the United Church
are planning a "hot supper" on March
17th, in aid of the European Flood
Relief. Please keep this date in mind.
Mr. Harvey Bride of Toronto, also
Mr. Bill Johnston, of Stratford, spent
the week-end at their respective
homes.
A good crowd attended the shower
in the Community Hall on Thursday
night in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
Galbraith. They were presented with
a chrome table and chairs also several
miscellaneous gifts. The evening was
spent in card and dancing, Music was
supplied by the Fordwich orchestra.
Miss Eileen Cobez, of Toronto, vis-
ited Tuesday with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs, atrl Cober,
Mr, and Mrs. Douglas Cleland and,
Allan, were $.0eilay guests with Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Parsons.
Charities were dealt with at the
Fordwieh W. I, meeting held at the
holm of Mrs. A. Demerling. Mrs, H.
Harris Presided and Mrs, Wm, $001-
era read the Scripture, Mrs. Harold
Pollock presented the motto, "Less
spice in the pickles and a little more
in living." An interesting hobby dis-
play was the result of the Roll Call,
"Nanie your hobby and bring a
sample."
Current events were reviewed by
Mrs. R. Doig. Donations were voted
to the local public library. the Euro-
pean Flood Relief, Red Cioss, Cancer
Fund and Polio Fund. Members are
also accepting the "Penny a week
mental health bags." It was decided
to give the secretary a small renumer-
ation in return for her services. Morn-
tiers were reminded of the pot holders
to be made as a donation to the A,C.
W.W. for Huron County Convention.
Mrs. Fred Hambly conducted a but-
! ton hole contest which was won by
14. Mrs. W. McCann. Mrs, Geo, Richards
leader of the girls' club, "Cottons may
be smart" told of the girls work and
also displayed some of the articles
that were made. A sing sung was en-
joyed and lunch was served, Mrs. H,
Harris, Mrs, R. Gibson, Mrs, Fred
IDernerling and Miss X. Brown assiat-
i ed the hostess.
Women's Missionary Society
The meeting of the of Ford-
s hvich United Church was held at the
home of Mrs. Ken Graham. Following
I the roll call which was answered by
"a missionary book I have read." Mrs.
f. C. Wilson, literature secretary, spoke
briefly on the Work of her department
I introducing books from the African
bookshelf and encouraging members
to report any books they read.
Mrs. Wm. Wilson, associate helpers
secretary, reported on her work and
gave out pamphlets. Mrs. Ira Schaefer
presided for the worship service, used
as her theme "The Sacrament of the
Lord's Supper." Mrs. IC, Graham, Mrs.
J. Wilson and Miss M. McElwain sang
an appropriate trio. The fifth African
program was presented in a very in-
formative manner by Mrs. R. Devitt.
She told how candidates are chosen
and trained for the African ministry
and the high standing that is required
by the Church of Christ in the An-
gola. Mrs. Robert Connell read an
article by Miss M. Dawson. a teacher
in Dondi, telling of her work there.

with prayer.

The C.G.I.T. group, Tams and
Beanies met at the home of Marilyn
Cooper with 20 girls in attendance.
The meeting was in charge of Jean
Wallace, president of the Beanies. The
meeting opened in the usual manner.
Louise Browne and Allison McCann
had charge of the worship service,
with Elizabeth Patterson and Marilyn
Cooper assisting.
The theme was "Loyalty." Mrs. C.
Carswell conducted the Bible study
using the new standard revised ver-
sion to make comparisons. Plans were
made to hold a mother and daughter
banquet soon. The next meeting will
be at the home of „Joan Demerling,
when Miss M, Love , R. N., of Wing-
ham, will be guest speaker
The initiation service was conducted
by Mrs. H. Pollock, when six girls
were initiated into the group. All en-
joye0 a musical contest and lunch was
served by Reita Harding. Jean Mc-
Cann, Florence Forester and Marilyn
McCann.
Hockey
Last Monday evening Fordwich
journeyed to Belgrave. The score was
13-10 for Bclgrave.
Howick Lions Midgets played Tees-
water in the Fordwich Arena on Wed-
nesday night winning 5-4 over Tees-
water.
Former Resident Passes
There passed away at the home of
her daughter In Blylh, Martha Wilson
wife of a late Samuel George Ash.
ton, in her 88th year. She was the
dear mother of Mrs. J. (Pearl) Wat-
son, of Blyth, and Kenneth, of Brus-
sels, also George and Percy of the 6th
line of Howick. One sister, Miss Mar-
garet Wilson of Fordwich, survives.
The remains rested at the Edgar
Funeral Home, in Gor.rie, where the
the funeral service Was conducted on
Monday at 2,30 p.m, Interment was
made in the Forclwich cemetery,
