Anglican Vestry Meeting
St. Stephen's congregation held
their annual Vestry meeting in. the
Orange Hall on Thursday evening,
the Rev, G, D. Vogan, rector opening
with prayers. Reports of the various
organizations showed a balance on
hand after all obligations had been
met. Repairs were made to the
brickwork of the church in the
summer costing about $375, Mr.
Vogan reeorted 3 baptisms, 4 funerals
and 1 marriage.

who had carried responsibility and
urged that they take the same zeal
and consecration into the coming year.

Following the meeting refresh-
ments were served by the ladies and
the presentation of a gift of money
was made by Clifford Dodds to Mr,
and Mrs. Vogan, Mrs. Earl King
reading a complimentary address.
Mr. and Mrs. Vogan are leaving after
the 1st of Feb. for La Salle, where
Mr. Vogan will be rector of St. An-
drew's church,
At their January meeting members
of the LO,B.A. voted to send $60 as
their annual donation to the Orange
Orphanage at Richmond Hill. A
donation of $5 was made to the
"March of Dimes". Plans were made
to hold a Valentine euchre party.
Red Cross Annual
The annual meeting of the Gorrie
and District Red Cross will be held
in the Orange Hall on Thursday af-
ternoon, Jan. 29th at 2,30 p.m, A
cordial invitation is extended to all
interested in the work of the Red
Cross to attend.

The "Health" meeting of the 'Wo-
men's institute was held on Jan.
20, in the Belgrave community centrd.
Twenty-six members and six visitors
were present. The meeting was con-
ducted by the president and opened
with the singing of the Institute
Ode, followed by the reading of the
minutes and financial statement,
It was decided to charge 35e a
picture to those wishing to have one
of the Institute which had been taken
at the December meeting. It was also
agreed to sponsor an afternoon meet-
ing for the ladies of the commuunity,

with Brussels in the Wingham Arena

Airs. Robert Ashton
The last member of a well-known
pioneer Howick family, Ida Mae
Jacques, widow of the late Robert
Ashton, and daughter of the late
John Jacques and Margaret Ann
Nay, passed away suddenly Saturday
morning at the home of her eldest
daughter, Mrs. Ernest Radford, Clin-
ton, where she had spent the past
several weeks. She was in her 78th
year.
Born in Howick Township, she
received her education .at the Orange
Hill school, Harriston High School
and Goderich Model School and
taught for a few years, In 1900 she
was married to Robert Ashton, who
predeceased her in 1934. They farm-
ed in Howick Township, later moving
to Gorrie, where Mrs. Ashton con-
tinued to live after the death of
Mr. Ashton.
She was a devoted member of the
Gorrie United Church and active in
the WeVf.S.. and W.A.
Surviving are four daughters: Mrs.
Ernest (Lorna) Radford, Clinton;
Mrs. C. W. (Beryl) Hobbs, Monkton;
Mrs. Wm. (Margaret) Strangway,
Sarnia; Mrs. G. S. (Pauline) Grin-
drod, Peterborough; three sons, Le-
land and Spencer, Toronto; Sturton,
Hamilton. There are nine grand-
children,
The funeral service was held at the
Gorrie United Church on Monday
afternoon with Rev. J. W. V. Bu-
chanan hi charge. nterment was in
the Gorrie cemetery. Pallbearers
-were, Wilbert Gallaway, E, T. Far-
rlsh, Bob Harrison, Burns Stewart,
