Woman's Association
The W. A. of the United Church
met at the home of Mrs, Fred Ilynd-
man .on Thursday, January 16th, The
Eastern Willing Workers conducted
the program, led by Mrs, Thos. Me-
Tones, Readings by Mrs, Les. Ruttan,
"Our Greatest Need" and Mrs. Walter
King "On the New Year," were given
Rev. J, W. V. /3nehanan conducted the
installation of officers for 1,953, The
new president, Mrs, Ftusseil Adams,
Was in charge of the business period.
Lunch was served by Mrs. W. C,
King, Mrs. E, earsbn, Mrs, Glad Ed-
gar, Mrs. C. Sperling and the hostess.

The Canadian Girls in Training held
their meeting at the home of Mrs.
Glad Edgar on Tuesday evening, Jan-
uary 13th. The president, Marguerite
Ford, was in charge of the worship
service. Ruth Toner favored with a
piano solo. During the meeting Mar-
lene Feigel read the address and pre-
sented Barabara Walnisley with a
lovely white Bible. Anna Toner gave
the story. Mrs. Edgar served a delic-
ious lunch which was enjoyed by
everyone. The meeting closed with
taps.

(nee Joyce Thornton) Ethel, a dau-
ghter,
Mr. Robt. Attridge, of Antelope,
Sask., visited with his cousin, Mrs,
Gordon Underwood and Mr, Under-
wood, and also with other relatives.

on Wednesday night were, Mrs. Del-
bert Clegg and Arthur Stephens.
Mr. and Mrs. Jelin Montgomery
were recipients of many congratula-
tory messages and had a number of
callers at their home on Thursday,
When they marked their 57th wedding
anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Irving Toner and Mr.
and Mrs. Earl Toner attended the
funeral of the Rev. F. W. Craik in
Alliaton on Thursday. Mrs. Annie
Toner returned home with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Watson of Lon-
don, visited on Sunday with their dau-
ghter, Mrs. Vegan and Rev. G. D.
Vogan.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Dane, of Tor-
onto, were week-end visitors with the
former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robt,
Dane. Mr, and Mrs. Stanley Dane
spent the Christmas holidays in Ari-
zona, making part of the journey by
plane.
Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Strong and Mr.
and Mrs. Stewart Strong and Donna,
were guests on Sunday of Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Witherow, Normanby
Township.
Mrs. H. Ferguson, and Mr. and Mrs.
Everett Sparling spent Wednesday in
Teeswater with Mr. and Mrs. Don
Ireland.
Mrs. Jean MacDonald and Mrs.
Archie Miller and Elaine, spent Sat-
urday and Sunday in Toront.;.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Townsend are
on a visit to Florida.
Little Helen Thornton, who was
burned severely a few weeks ago,
is hack in Wingham Hospital for fur-
thee treatment.
Mrs. Win. Jardine spent 4 couple
of ,days last week with her daughter,
Mrs, Jack McDonald, in Brussels,
Mr, Jim Taman, who is stationed at
the Selfridge Air Ease, Detroit,
visited on Saturday at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. E. II, Strong, Friends
Will bp glad to know that Jim is re,

in a cm. accident .in December.

Mission 13and
The Wingham United Church Mis-
sion Band Set on January 13th., in
the Sunday School rooms, with 35 pre-
sent. The motto this year is "Christ
is Lord,"
"Standing at the Portal of the Open-
ing Year" was the opening hymn.
Mrs, Salter had charge of the Scrip-
ture lesson and Karen Beattie led in
prayer. Ruth Ann Hamilton sang a
solo, Mrs. Frank Howson told a very
interesting story to the children.
Mrs. Roulston, president of the W,
M. S., was called on to install the new
officers for 1953: president, Dorothy
Chamney; 1st. vice pres., Judy Lunn;
2nd vice-pres., Elizabeth Burrell; sec-
retary, Betty Purdon; treasurer, Shar-

The Howick Jr.Institute bold their
regular meeting in the basement of
the Crimunitr Ball on Wednesday,
January 14th. The opening exercises
were in charge of the president, mar,„
jorie Behrns. Roll call was answered
by "My Favorite Graft," The topic
was rug making and Helen Strong,
the convenor in charge, introduced
Mrs, Jas, Edwards, who gave a talk
on malting rugs and showed a beauti-
ful rug. The meeting adjourned to
join the Junior Farmers for the
joint meeting, after which lunch and
recreation was enjoyed by
W.M.S.
The January meeting of the United
Church Woman's Missionary Society
was held at the home of Miss Mar-
garet Dane with a, fair attendance,
Mrs. Alex Taylor was convener of tile.
program committee and Mrs. W. E.
Whitfield conducted the worship ser-
vice. The limn "Breathe on Me
Breath of God" opened the service.
Rev. J. W. V. Buchanan conducted the
installation of the new executive in a
very inspiring service, The theme of
the meeting was 'Healing and Health,
and was presented in a very interest-
ing manner by Mrs. Cassie Taylor.
Plans were made for an executive
meeting to be held at the home of
Mrs. L. N. Whitley, an Friday even-
ing, January 23rd.

An enjoyable evening was spent in
the Gorrie United Church Sunday
School rooms, when the young people
were hosts to the Wroxeter Young
People. A sing song opened the sre-
vice. Roy Bride and Don McKenzie
were in charge of the program in
which many enjoyable relays and con-
tests were conducted. A very delicious
lunch was served at the close of the
social.
Rev. Dr. Gordon, who has served as
a missionary in India, for 39 years,
was a recent guest of Mr. and Mrc.
Jos. Woods. Dr, Gordon, who is spend-
ing three months in Toronto, will be
speaking over C.B.L. on the morning
devotions, at 8.15 a.m. from March
16th to 21st. Mr. Alvin Wood and
daughter, Bonnie, of Nobleford,
were also guests at the same home.

the week-end at the home of his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hayes, con.
