Salem Women's Association
Fifteen members attended the Jan-
uary meeting of the Women's Assoc-
iation, Salem United Church, on Wed-
nesday afternoon. The president, Mrs.
Stanley Gallaher, conducted a short
devotional, reading the 53rd psalm and
repeating the Lord's Prayer. Plans
were made to hold the annual meet.

uary 22nd., with supper at 7 o'clock.
Business meeting will follow. The
ladies plan to meet twice monthly in
order to complete their quilting. In
the summer they will again hold just
one meeting per month.
Young People's Union
Glenn Meleliehael, president, presid-
ed over the Sunday night service of
the Young People's Union, in the Un-
ited Church, The meeting was called
to order with soft music with Shirley
McMichael at the piano. The opening
hymn was "Jesus Saviour Pilot Me,"
Annie McNaughton chose for the
Scripture reading, Isaiah, chapter 61.
Betty Newton presented the minutes
and correspondence, All joined in
singing the missionary hymn, "In
Christ there is no East or West."
Ronald McMichael led in prayer. Don-
na MacLean was in charge of the
topic under the heading "Christian
Citizenship." She gave an interesting
address on "The Christian Home."
Rev. E. W.Toticl conducted a Bible
quizz, The meeting closed with the
hymn "All the Way My Saviour Leads
Me" and prayer by the minister.
W. M. S. Meeting
The Women's Missionary Society of
the United Church held their first
meeting of 1953 in the church parlours
on Friday afternoon. The president,
Mrs. Allen. Munro, presided and in the
absence of the secretary, Mrs. D. S.
MacNaughton presented the minutes
and .correspondence, The meeting was
called to order with quiet music. The
president gave the call to worship,
"All beautiful, the march of days. As
seasons come and go. The hand that
shaped the rose, Also wrought, the
crystal of the snow." The hymn, "0
Day of Rest and Gladness," was sung.
Mrs. J. H. Wylie chose for the Scrip-
ture reading psalm 124. Mrs. Harvey
Tinim led in prayer. Mrs. Munro re-
viewed the 7th chapter of the study
book, "Along African Trails," dealing
with the healing mission. She told
of the work in the different hospi-
tals and stressed the need for workers
and materials so that many more lives
could be saved, The mission hymn,
written by James Montgomery, "0
Spirit of the Living God," was sung.
